Backed by PETA’s Global Compassion Fund, PETA fieldworkers returned to the “zona irregular” neighborhood of Avante, Mexico. With some help from our friends Direccion de Protecion y Bienstar Animal, Planned Pethood International, and the veterinarians who came all the way from Brazil and Cuba to help, the free spay-a-thon sterilized a whopping 324 dogs and cats in just one weekend. We received a certificate of appreciation from the Mayor of Cancun for our collaboration in helping to end the companion animal homelessness crisis. https://lnkd.in/gjMMJKGK #PETA #Mexico #SpayandNeuter #AdoptDontShop #Animals #AnimalWelfare #AnimalRights

PETA’s taking on the animal overpopulation and homelessness crises one city at a time, and in March, we “fixed” a total of 499 companion cats and dogs in Chichimilá and Cancún, Mexico! Mexico has the largest population of stray dogs in Latin America, with more than 18 million countrywide. It’s been estimated that a staggering 79% of dogs and cats in the country are homeless. Homeless cats and dogs struggle to survive on the streets, where they’re vulnerable to traffic, weather extremes, attacks from other animals or cruel humans, diseases, infections, and other deadly dangers. Our spay/neuter clinics are vital resources for combatting this ongoing crisis by preventing more animals from being born into a world that can’t support them. See how we helped underserved guardians and their companions in Mexico with two successful spay-a-thons. https://lnkd.in/eZtKUGFk #cats #dogs #mexico #spayandneuter #animalhealth #animalcare #stopanimalhomelessness #rescue #advocate #hero4animals #clinics #companionanimals #adoptdontshop #peta

#MakeADogsDay Today is a reminder to animal lovers everywhere to adopt a pet instead of buying a new one. In fact, we encourage everyone to visit a shelter to see why adopting a four-legged friend will make the world a better place. * Why should you adopt a pet? Approximately 3.1 million dogs enter shelters in the United States annually, many being relinquished by their owners. Worse still, approximately 15% of the animals that enter shelters are euthanized. While numbers continue to decline, the need for adoption continues to be overwhelming. One sure way to make a dog's day is giving them a new, loving home through adoption. When you adopt a pet, you are: - Saving a life. - Stopping animal cruelty in breeding facilities. - Saving money for spaying, neutering, vaccination and sometimes microchipping. - Choosing from a large selection of dog breed who are normally house-trained.

When it comes to accepting help from Best Friends Animal Society, remember that help comes with strings- and lots of them. Best Friends Animal Society threatened to end Augusta, GA’s community cat program if the shelter didn’t accept their offer to embed members of Best Friends and expand services. More alarmingly, their offer also barred staff from disclosing a dog’s history of, or propensity for, aggression to potential adopters and that the dog’s temperament be based on the shelter staff’s observations rather than by a formal assessment. According to Augusta Animal Services, 60% of all their animals euthanized in 2022 and 2023 were due to bites, court orders or aggressiveness. …What? So if you don’t accept our help and allow us to take control of your facility, you don’t get any money to improve the lives of animals within your community. The pattern of Best Friends is becoming more clear with more open-admission shelters they target: it’s not about the animals, it’s about the numbers. #animalsarentnumbers #animalwelfare #stopvillainizingourshelters https://lnkd.in/gUEiuNPe

It is Giving Tuesday and wanted to share a few charities near and dear to my heart that are making a big impact in the Animal Welfare space. I currently participate as a Board of Director on the three separate Animal Welfare Organizations listed below, one local to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and two that are national. Each one of these organizations is uniquely different and impactful in their own space. The SPCA of TX, located in Dallas/Ft. Worth. At this time, Dallas, Tx is the fastest growing city in the United States and had the largest population growth in 2023. Along with this growth, more animals are moving in and more being relinquished. The State of Texas, along with a few other states, including California, are considered to have the largest number of homeless animals and many states will not take transports from Texas due to more common illness you will find in southern states such as Heartworm disease, parvo, and distemper. In DFW, the SPCA of TX, along with Operation Kindness who I also must mention, work hard on behalf of helping with the adoption, transportation and medical care of these pets. If you wish to donate to the SPCA of TX, please use the link provided here: https://spca.org/gt2024. VCA Charities: Amazing things are happening through VCA Charities such as Ready for Rescue, the second chance KONG program, Hope funds and my personal favorite, Dogs Day Out program. The Dogs Day Out program is an "out-of-the box" solution that helps get dogs out of the shelter, into the public’s eye for more exposure, helping to alleviate the dogs’ stress and increasing their chance for adoption. Sad Fact-large dogs are hardly being adopted and our shelters are currently over-crowded with the larger breeds. The DDO program provides the resources and training for the shelters and encourages the public to take these dogs out on field trips. It is such a win-win for the dogs, the shelters, and the community. If you are interested in more information on VCA Charities, please visit this link: vcacharities.org and if you are interested in donating to these wonderful programs, there is a link to make a donation on the site. Kitten College: Did you know that the most euthanized animals in the shelter are neonatal kittens? On the other hand, the most adoptable animals across the nation are sterilized kittens. Sometimes the difference between life and death is a few weeks. Kitten College works with shelters and rescue's across the nation to train and support them in developing programs that help save these little ones. If you are interested in learning more or donating, please visit kittencollege.org. There are so many more wonderful Animal Welfare groups that need our support and anything you can do or give will make a difference. #vcacharities #spcaofTx #kittencollege #workingtogetherfortheloveofpets

World Spay Day is underway at the Cayman Islands Humane Society clinic! We have exactly 333 animals in our care as of today and more waiting for space at the shelter. Spaying and neutering is the only way to avoid unwanted litters, reduce the overpopulation of dogs and cats in these Islands, improve animal welfare and alleviate the severe overcrowding in our shelter. See below for the benefits of spaying and neutering for animals and, to sponsor a spay or neuter, you can donate here: https://lnkd.in/gg_jYdvC $70 for a cat neuter $95 for a cat spay $140 for a dog neuter $170 for a dog spay Benefits of Spaying (females): * No heat cycles, therefore males will not be attracted * Less desire to roam * Risk of mammary gland tumors, ovarian and/or uterine cancer is reduced or eliminated, especially if done before the first heat cycle * Reduces number of unwanted cats/kittens/dogs/puppies * Helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives Benefits of Neutering (males): *Reduces or eliminates risk of spraying and marking * Less desire to roam, therefore less likely to be injured in fights or auto accidents * Risk of testicular cancer is eliminated, and decreases incidence of prostate disease * Reduces number of unwanted cats/kittens/dogs/puppies * Decreases aggressive behavior, including dog bites * Helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives #spayandneuter #adoptdontshop #caymanhumane #shelterdog #sheltercat #animalwelfare #caymanislands
