Love to see more evidence emerging in this space! “Exercise decreased the severity of postpartum depressive and anxiety symptoms.” and… “Initiating the intervention <12 weeks postpartum was associated with a greater reduction in depressive symptoms.” Getting in early with exercise is so important to significantly improve postpartum mental health 👩🍼💪 Aim for “at least 350 MET-min/week of exercise over a minimum of 4 days per week” and know that “greater exercise volume was associated with a greater reduction in the severity of depressive symptoms.” #exercisephysiology #postpartum #mentalhealth #exerciseismedicine #depression #anxiety

Did you know symptoms of depression and anxiety can overlap, making it somewhat challenging to differentiate the two? Plus, you can experience BOTH at the same time. While the clinical features of postpartum depression includes feeling sad most of the the time, worthless or listing interest in things once enjoyed, they can also include feelings of anxiety, difficulty sleeping or change in appetite- these last few are many of the symptoms seen in postpartum anxiety. PPA is more of constant worrying, racing thoughts, feeling ok edge or a feeling your baby is in constant danger. PPD is sometimes used as an umbrella term to encompass women who suffer from depression and anxiety. If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, know you're NOT alone. Contact your GP, speak to a treated friend or family member or contact us at The Motivational Mums Club. There is NO shame in asking for help. Help is always waiting for you when you need it.
