We need homes for tots. Not just toys for tots. Imagine that for Christmas you get to give your kids an eviction. A bike does no good to the child who can’t have a place to live. The toys for tots become boxes of street side evictions. All those donations, once the apartment is gone are just more things they have to give up on. Another bandaid on broken arm. You have vouchers, your a good tenant, but the new landlord wants you out so he can paint the apartment you call home. There is no stopping it. No one will help you use your voucher. You have your voucher because you have an intellectual disability. Imagine being a kid right now facing eviction. There are many youth that are either couch surfing or on the edge. Read my story bout the four children I know that are close to me as they face eviction. As U2 said “ how long..how long must we sing this song.” What will be your Bloody Sunday? When will you take to the streets to make change as we cannot do it alone. Kristina can’t do it. Her four year old can’t do it. We as the most wealthiest society in the world can’t let them and others fall and use can food drives to make us feel like we are making a difference. As those that are losing their apartment can buy food. Kirstina has food stamps. What she doesnt have is another apartment. Any American homeowners have the equity needed to become the landlord that takes people off the streeet. There are resources for those with resources to buy housing. There is little to no resources for this women to have an apartment even though she has a well paying voucher. Those that own more than one home have a chance to not only help other children but also help their own. As a long term rental would provide equity to pass down. Vouchers will pay the costs. Section 8 will make it work. The reason is not business, this is all personal. The only way I could see it differently is if people start to make it like business. As in business when there are potentail customers with money walking around we try to get that. Vouchers are money. It’s social. When a for profit mental health service starts, they take Medicare, as they understand it is money. Why are we not understanding nd catering to those with vouchers? We think we need to sell poor people junk and disposable products to make money. Why can’t we sell them housing that is functional. Instead we over improve and try to rent to classes of people that are not either renting or in their isn’t enough volume to need another high end place on the market.

Right now there is a story going untold in our communities. That is the story of the children of evictions. The children who have to watch their parents in their struggle. The children who lose their homes due to no fault of their own. In this blog I talk about this affect and share the story of a close family to me. A family that I once knew as clients and have allowed me to share their story. A family,it that become my neighbor after I changed my position from one outreach role to another. I etched these kids grow and I see them go through this stress. Please check out my blog post about the children of evictions and this one family,it that we could help in Keene NH. But we have to get together now. We have to think what it would be like to be a child of eviction, or even have a child and face eviction. Without housing options the struggle is real but the solutions are more real. They come to us one story at a time, one person at a time. #homelessness #outreach #literaryagent #journalism #mentalhealthawareness

Those who benefit most from the status quo are often less inclined to advocate for meaningful change. The foster care industry disproportionately impacts and harms those living in poverty and marginalized communities. Families living in poverty have limited access to resources and supports exacerbating their struggles, making it difficult to navigate complex bureaucratic processes and advocate for their rights. The system becomes a trap for vulnerable families, ensnaring them in cycles of poverty and neglect. True change requires more than just good intentions—it demands courage, determination, and a commitment to challenging the status quo. So, ask yourself: are you benefiting from the status quo? Are you content to be complicit in a classist system that so often perpetuates harm and inequality? Or are you ready to be part of the solution, to stand up and fight for a more just and compassionate care for the wellbeing of all families… so they can stay safely together? #childwelfare #fostercare #familywellbeing #justhelp #poverty

Identifying children and youth who are orphaned or in vulnerable situations involves recognizing that they often have connections with each other. For instance, a child who has gone without food may know of another child who lacks a place to sleep, who may in turn know of a child who has dropped out of school. This cycle continues. Providing comprehensive support for these children and youth requires a thorough care plan, referrals, layering of services and economic empowerment to promote self-sufficiency thereby turning them from beggars to bosses. #orphansandvulnerablechildren #breakingcyclesofpoverty #empowerment

🚨 Have you noticed how begging is becoming a growing trend in towns and cities? 🤔 It's disheartening to see people using small children, the elderly, and even those with disabilities to solicit cash on the streets. In some cases, these individuals aren't begging for themselves—others are overseeing their daily earnings. 😞 What’s even more concerning is that some of the money given out of goodwill is later used to purchase alcohol. 🍺💸 It raises the question: Has begging become a form of employment? And if so, are we unknowingly supporting exploitation? 🤷♂️ We need to be mindful of how we offer help. Sometimes our kindness may not be reaching the people who truly need it. 🙏 🛑 Say NO to exploitation. Let’s not entertain practices that harm more than they help. 🛑 #CommunityAlert #StopExploitation #EthicalGiving #SupportTheNeedy #KindnessWithPurpose #RaiseAwareness #ProtectTheVulnerable

Every 10 MINUTES in the US, a child is forcibly removed from their family due to poverty. I am reaching as a 30 year children and families and foster youth advocate regarding H.R.5028 - Family Poverty is Not Child Neglect Act. It is a bill that stops the practice of forcible separation of impoverished families. Not only will H.R.5028 keep America's children safe and at home with their biological families but it will cut the number of youth entering foster care each year by 70% (yes, 70%!), keep vulnerable children out of the grip of predators, improve mental, emotional and physical health outcomes, raise high school and secondary education graduation rates, diversify the educated workforce, reduce crime and prison populations, reduce unwanted pregnancy, stem the tide of those finding themselves unhoused, greatly reduce poverty rates, and more. If you care about keeping vulnerable children safe, please SIGN AND SHARE the petition to enact H.R.5028. https://lnkd.in/eFB9TfXb #Fostercare #Childwelfare #StopFamilySeparation #FamilyPreservation #EnactHR5028

In the Former Soviet Union, where I spent my youth as a missionary kid, I saw something unforgettable in orphanages the eyes of children there—a deep, unspoken yearning for love. I thought what kind of horrible person could possibly neglect or abuse such innocent souls? Over time and with more information, I’ve come to a troubling realization: the ones capable of such acts often look no different from you or me, but just different experiences and living conditions. They are often parents ensnared in a relentless cycle of poverty, stripped of resources and opportunities replaced with trauma and marginalization, striving against all odds to provide the best they can with what little they have and often repeating cycles of despair. Now, turn your attention to the foster care industry. In my eyes, it’s a sector that, despite its best intentions, has become one of the largest perpetrators of neglect and abuse perpetrating these cycles of despair for families. This bloated, bureaucratic system too often fails the very children it pledges to protect, often branding and discarding them as casualties of dysfunctional families. Inside this flawed industry, good people face an uphill battle to actually do good and help, mirroring the parents and families they aim to replace. Our society’s empathy and grace, however, is doled out with alarming selectivity. We readily excuse our own failings within the foster care industry, attributing them to good intentions, while we harshly judge struggling parents and families, whose intentions are often no less pure. While we spend this month raising awareness about foster care, I want to shine a light on these overlooked truths—the unintended yet devastating abuse and neglect that stem from our best intentions. Perhaps instead of tirelessly working to improve a system to divided and replace parents and families, we should focus our efforts on keeping children as far away as we can from this system and investing in their families and communities, ensuring every family has the support needed to stay together safely. #fostercare #childwelfare #familywellbeing #poverty #justhelp
