Eunice Newton Foote City: St. John XXIII Future City Competition Version 2024 Student feedback with editing produced a streamlined version of the original cut. St. John XXIII's Grade Six entry into the National Future City Competition. EVERY student in the class helped contribute to the construction of the grand model. Students are working on Unit 3 of the Ontario Science Curriculum, “Matter and Energy”, which is all about S.T.E.M. and electrical theory and applications. In order to understand some complex concepts, learning by doing, or experiential learning matters. Over the past ten days, students have been engaging in building circuits (a path for transmitting electric current) by using some fairly advanced engineering kits. Two students, also created the original music for the video. #ONTED #DCDSB #futureengineers #stemeducationforkids #ONTED #DCDSB #futureengineers #stemeducationforkids #FCShowcase2024 #fcecanada #EngineersCanada #OntarioTechUniversity #EngineeringOutreach #EngineersofTomorrow Eunice Newton Foote City: St. John XXIII Future City Competition Version 2024

The Case for the East - How unlocking #Cambridge's growth potential can benefit the region "By any measure, Cambridge is an exceptional city; one that people are drawn to from across the world. Its reputation as a centre of educational enlightenment, #innovation, and its extraordinary #architecture has always brought the brightest minds to the city. In the 21st Century, Cambridge has broadened its attraction by becoming the leading life science and #technology hub in Europe, with the potential to lead the world in the coming years. The next steps for the city are crucial." writes our Chair, James Palmer https://lnkd.in/e8exmUj6

In Module 6 of Virginia Tech's Future of Cities (SPIA 4454) class this Winter Session -- the last module(!) -- students become acquainted with some of the work of Anthony Townsend (Cornell Tech), Thomas W. Sanchez, AICP (Texas A&M University), Carl Abbott (Portland State University) & Leonard Ruchelman (Old Dominion University). They also consider some of the films of Jacques Tati (which poke fun at modern design, consumerism, careerism, technological efficiency, gadgetry and, moreover, human behavior). The class is offered by Virginia Tech School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), and it attracts students from a diversity of disciplines. You, too, can be a Hokie -- or just help to create a better tomorrow! https://spia.vt.edu #hokies #futurecities #futureofcities #futureleaders #futuremobility #urbanplanning #urbanism #sustainablecities #futuresliteracy #virginiatech

We work with a number of businesses involved in the science and tech sectors, both on the developer/investor and occupier sides. With the possible exception of Norwich Research Park, they all want to be based in and around #Cambridge because they value access to University of Cambridge and Cambridge Biomedical Campus above anything else. This was reflected in the extraordinary demand witnessed for lab development sites in 2020-2022, many of which have now moved to the planning stage or are under construction. A lack of fast connectivity to the wider sub-region limits demand from these businesses to be located further away from this cluster. However, this is changing as the science and tech cycle evolves. We are now seeing demand for mid tech / high tech / GMP and advanced manufacturing space to support the Cambridge cluster. The priorities for these types of buildings are different as access to road networks, power, alternative skill sets and larger sites are driving this demand, which could benefit the whole of the East. It is also where the Eastern Powerhouse can play a part, working with government (whichever colour it may be) and the proposed DC, to ensure the necessary infrastructure funding finds it’s way into our region, so this potential growth can be unlocked in a sustainable way.

📢 Tuesday Trivia Answer Revealed: Newton, Gravity, and an Exciting Local Connection! 🍎 So, what disease tangentially led to Isaac Newton's theory of gravity? The answer is... the Bubonic Plague! 🦠 Here's the intriguing story: • In the late 17th century, Cambridge University closed due to a plague outbreak. • Newton, then a "so-so student," returned home for two years. • During this isolation, he flourished intellectually. • Legend says watching an apple fall inspired his theory of gravitation. Now, for the local connection: The Gravity Centre at Weobley Castle! • The centre is based in what used to be the castle's orchard. • Surrounding woods still drop apples, mirroring Newton's famous observation. • Visitors can experience gravity first hand through exciting activities like sledging, mountain boarding, and buggy riding. • The centre caters to all abilities, including those with physical and learning disabilities. Did you guess both parts correctly? Whether you did or not, I hope this insight has inspired you to view local attractions through a new lens. #TuesdayTrivia #GravityCentre #111Places #111placesswansea 111 Places Guidebooks ACC ART BOOKS LIMITED P.S. 🤔Q for Linkedin: any major critiques about Peter Newman, Leo Kosonen and Jeff Kenworthy's Theory of Urban Fabrics that makes you doubt its usefulness for representing the history of urban development in the context of a general introduction lecture to 👨🎓land use + transport planning 101? Comment below 👇 Link to Urban Fabrics Paper 📝 https://lnkd.in/gUDB8rV5 This lecture from a much younger me in 2018 at Eindhoven University of Technology, and thinking of updating it for use at TUM Accessibility Planning Also in the lecture: -Isochrones -Bid-rent theory -land use transport cycle
