Last week I had the opportunity to listen an exceptional presentation from one of today’s gurus in the shipping industry, Mr. Lars Jensen 💯 Some key notes from Lars's presentation: - Panama Canal water shortage slowly improving 🌧 - Liner shipping competition exemption expires in Europe next April ✔ - Major shipping hubs might risk losing out big - case in point: Hong Kong 🚢 - The core remains that fewer, but larger, hubs are more efficient 🌐 - Lower fertility rates will lead to an ageing population 👴🏻 - Today 55% of the global population lives in cities, this will increase to 70% by 2050. At the recent SIDO Best Practices and Training Forum 2024, trade experts Michael Hubbard (North Carolina), Leonyl Ortiz-González (Puerto Rico), and Tatiana Miron (Prime Target) shared invaluable insights on market selection. Their key takeaway? Success comes from data-driven strategies and proactive decision-making. To start, North Carolina presented a real-world case study of export market selection of a healthtech company which offered insights into the cooperation between the US states and Prime Target. 🇵🇷 Puerto Rico’s Promoexport presented their export planning program. Currently, their market selection services have a focus on neighboring and culturally close countries, and are seeking to understand how other states and service providers view the process.
