70 orthodontists participated in the survey, and 33%-43% of them changed their treatment plans after visualizing crown, root, and bone with CBCT scans. So, what’s this study about? 👇 A new study from the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics shows that 33%-43% of orthodontists changed their treatment plans after visualizing not only crown, but also root, and bone (CBCT scans)* 🦷 🔍 CBCT scans and detailed visualization generated by 3D Predict AI-driven treatment planning software revealed issues like dehiscence and fenestrations, which helped orthodontists make more precise treatment decisions. Our research team has recently published a study in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Findings from the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study reveal the long-term psychosocial effects of changes in malocclusion from adolescence to adulthood. Study highlights: - Orthodontic treatment significantly improves malocclusion from adolescence to midlife. - Incident and sustained malocclusion were associated with worse self-rated dental appearance and poor oral health related quality of life. - Malocclusion was not associated with overall life satisfaction. - The long-term benefits of orthodontic treatment may diminish by midlife unless good dental health is maintained. Orthodontists play a vital role in educating patients on maintaining oral health after treatment to ensure lasting positive outcomes. Check out the latest issue of Ortho Scholar Weekly! This week, we delve into the clinical efficacy of the Invisalign mandibular advancement appliance (MAA) for treating Class II malocclusion in adolescents. We explore the mismatch between predicted and actual treatment results, particularly focusing on overjet reduction and molar relationships. The findings reveal significant variations in treatment effectiveness, which highlight the need for refined predictive tools. This study is pivotal for professionals seeking to enhance treatment strategies with MAA. Case Study: Vertical Growth and Progeny Correction with #Sparkaligners and a #Beneslider In this case, the patient is missing lateral incisors and the lower jaw is rotating down and forward, which is further complicated by an already narrow maxilla. Vertical growth and progeny present a significant challenge in treatment, but with the right approach, it can be managed effectively. By combining a #mesialslider with Spark Aligners, we achieve a more streamlined process—making life easier for both the patient and the orthodontist. 2-phase treatment: 1. Space closure using a #mesialslider 2. Finishing with Spark #aligners and reshaping of the canine teeth This approach not only optimizes the patient’s functional and aesthetic outcomes but also simplifies the orthodontist's workload. #Orthodontics #OrthognathicSurgery #Aligners #SparkAligners #MesialSlider #OrthodonticInnovation #JawSurgery #PatientCare #beneslider #tad #hybridhyrax #benefit_application #benefitforaligner

Studies suggest that _Fixed Retainers_ (Bonded Retainers) retain teeth in their corrected position best, especially for lower front teeth. They: 1. Prevent teeth from shifting or rotating 2. Maintain alignment and bite stability 3. Are less likely to be lost or misplaced (since they're bonded) A study published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics found that: - Fixed Retainers: 96.5% retention rate after 5 years - Hawley's Retainers: 77.8% retention rate after 5 years - Vacuum-Formed Retainers: 70.6% retention rate after 5 years However, it's essential to note that retention rates can vary depending on individual factors, such as: - Orthodontic case complexity - Patient compliance - Retainer maintenance - Oral hygiene Your orthodontist will recommend the best retainer option based on your specific needs and treatment goals to ensure optimal retention.

Practice Makes... Injuries? Contrary to popular belief, many sports injuries happen during practice, not games. As an orthopedic surgeon, I see this firsthand. Why? Several factors contribute: reduced vigilance on safety protocols, overtraining leading to fatigue and overuse injuries, a lack of immediate medical support, and a sometimes-casual approach to technique. To mitigate this risk, we need a proactive approach. Coaches must emphasize proper technique in every drill, ensuring athletes consistently use protective gear. Structured warm-ups and cool-downs are vital, as is monitoring training load to prevent overuse. Open communication is key; athletes should feel comfortable reporting pain or discomfort. The bottom line? While practice is essential for skill development, it's crucial to prioritize safety. By focusing on proper technique, adequate rest, and a supportive training environment, we can significantly reduce the incidence of practice-related injuries and keep athletes healthy and performing at their best. #Orthopedics #SportsInjuries #InjuryPrevention #AthleteHealth #SafeTraining #SportsMedicine #AthleticTraining
