Edison International strongly supports California’s climate goals, and the countdown is on for the state to become carbon neutral by 2045. Countdown to 2045, Edison International’s latest analysis of what’s needed for the state to meet its ambitious climate goals, launches today. We are at a pivotal moment in history. Electricity demand will rise by more than 80% over the next two decades, driven by policies in place today and enabled by unprecedented expansion of the electric grid and new clean energy resources. Countdown to 2045 identifies challenges to feasibly meet the state’s goals and calls for policy changes and technological developments to address them. Here is some of what will be needed by 2045 to help California reach net-zero: ◾ 90% of vehicles and 95% of buildings to run on clean electricity ◾ Add new electrical transmission at 4x and distribution at 10x historical rates ◾ 3x more utility-scale clean energy resources online compared to today, primarily through new solar, wind and energy storage ◾ Up to 15% of utility-scale generation from new and emerging technologies, such as floating offshore wind and next-generation geothermal Realizing this clean energy future would mean even greater benefits for customers, reduced pollution and new economic development and job creation. While the tools available today can achieve significant reduction, we need policies to encourage even greater investment in emerging technologies and enable more feasible and affordable options to meet California’s net-zero goal. Thank you to my teammates for the hard work put into developing this analysis and for providing strong calls to action for accelerating the clean energy transition. Awesome work. The numbers paint the picture well. Good to see that the energy burden on customers will reduce by 40% in 2045.
This guy is talking out of both sides of his mouth--in his interview with the LA Times he advocates for keeping gas plants going all the way until 2045. That's pure business, not climate science.
Great message and motivating video! Electrification is our path to a more clean, healthy, economically resilient and stable future.
Analysis provides a template for utilities around the world. Excellent work.
Hi Predro - can you share a live link of your talks with Calvin Butler at the Climate Forward talks with the New York Times. Thanks.
Excellent video! Great production and very informative. 👏🏽

Great challenge and message Pedro Pizarro ! Thank you for the inspiration.
Welcome to my energy-infused world! ⚡ I am passionate about our clean energy sustainable future, and love connecting talent to meaningful career opportunities!
1yThank you for sharing the new paper "Countdown to 2045"! I am eager to learn more about how the state of California has to massively and quickly expand the grid, to meet the 80% increase in demand. I know we all have to be committed to achieve rapid change, this through state policy changes, the use of emerging technology, and everyone in our state doing our part to achieve significant reduction in Carbon emissions within the next 22 year period.
