How to Look Like a Big Deal (When You’re Not) Your startup has zero dollars. Zero customers. But here’s the thing: Perception is everything. If you don’t look like a contender, no one will treat you like one. 🔵 It’s not about pretending. 🔵 It’s about presenting yourself. What Design Really Says 🟢 Clean design = We care. 🟢 Consistent design = We’re serious. 🟢 Confident design = We’re ready for this. When you look the part, you start believing it. And when you believe it, you become it. So, fix the fonts. Clear the clutter. Keep it clean. Because big deals don’t wait for you to get ready. ______________ Hi, Im Ronak Rai Cuz if your startup's a dumpster fire, no one’s bringing the marshmallows. 🟢 🔵

Unique approach to design is not just done for the sake of originality. I believe most of my at this point couple million USD earned with my two hands doing design is due to those unique methods. Most of the methods I use are there so we can explain our decisions better to people who don’t know a lo-fi wireframe from a dolphin eating a carrot. Simplify, clarify and annotate even the obvious things - if you find your own, unique voice in design annotation you’ll find out people tend to listen to you more - stakeholders, CEO’s suddenly invite you to the table. This is where designers should be and they won’t be there with just boring “designy talk” So yeah, I am privileged and I can do stuff on my own terms but I started with different approaches from the beginning. Takes time, don’t be boring. #malewicz #startup #design

Hmmm... have you ever had the experience of educating your client about the positive impacts of designing a logo for his company, the difference between a logo and a monogram, and the role of a modifier accompanying the logo? 414 days ago today I sat down to scribble ideas for Embarc’s logo. Needless to say, my decision to found Embarc & go all-in on start-ups was no great loss to the art world. In those 414 days, some special things have happened. We’ve had 7 founding teams from the community take the leap. 2 Embarc-ers - who met for the first time at an Embarc event - are about to close one of London’s hottest pre-seed rounds. 1 of our founding members is heading to San Francisco for a certain accelerator programme. Another has hit £250k ARR 4 months since commercial launch. Embarc exists to help these special things happen. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg. There are dozens of people in Embarc working on side projects. Everything from GPT wrappers to a digitally enabled home cleaning business. And the best bit? It’s just getting going. The reality is that those 7 founding teams represent a small % of the 700+ people we’ve had sign up. Imagine what the next 414 days will bring. If you’re building, or hoping to build, something cool in tech - follow Embarc on LI & drop me a line. I’d love to hear about it.

I bet you don’t know what a charrette is. But I bet you’ve had a bunch of them. Charettes are important tools in the iterative process. And it’s named after carts that carried #architecture students' materials and models to their final review. Fun fact: this was necessary because students often frantically worked on their models on the way to their final presentations, enlisting the help of friends along the way. Charettes are incredibly important to our own creative processes, even – especially! — among small teams and #startups. And it holds true even for #solopreneurs. I'll post more about how you can employ charrettes to improve your creative process. And if you wanna get the inside track on helpful, #funfacts like this, consider subscribing to my newsletter. Drop your name below and I’ll get you on the VIP list. 😉

Do Hardware Startups need good design? (Part 2) I always wondered if there was a data-driven way to evaluate if or if-not there is value in design for startups. Mainly I asked myself the question: Do Hardware Startups need Good Design? So I set out on a little journey to see what the data says. In Part 2 of this series, I looked to see if there is a link between Good Design and a successful Kickstarter campaign Surprisingly, the data is pretty strong here! Stay tuned for Part 3.
