Altruism and humanity help us fight for a better world. On #WorldNGODay, we would like to underline the role of non-governmental organisations in raising awareness about the importance of promoting #HumanRights for all. In this sense, from EBU, we commit ourselves to keep advocating for a more inclusive and accessible society for blind and partially sighted people in Europe where equality and non-discrimination become key values.

Humanity plays a crucial role in helping people in various ways. Firstly, it fosters empathy and compassion, allowing individuals to understand and connect with the struggles and joys of others💯🧡. This empathy forms the foundation for offering support and assistance to those in need, whether it's through acts of kindness, volunteer work, or charitable donations❣️❣️. These actions not only provide immediate relief but also contribute to building stronger communities and fostering a sense of unity among people from diverse backgrounds🌸🌸. Secondly, humanity promotes inclusivity and acceptance, creating a more inclusive society where everyone feels valued and respected regardless of their differences. By embracing diversity and promoting equality, humanity helps to break down barriers and discrimination, creating a more equitable world where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive and succeed🌹🥀. This inclusive mindset leads to collaborations and partnerships that can address systemic issues and create positive social change on a larger scale😘. Lastly, humanity encourages individuals to advocate for justice and stand up against injustice and oppression. Whether it's speaking out against discrimination, advocating for human rights, or supporting marginalized communities, humanity empowers people to be agents of positive change and make a difference in the world. By promoting fairness and equality, humanity helps to create a more just and compassionate society where everyone's rights and dignity are respected and protected😘🥀 1. #HumanityFirst 2. #SpreadKindness 3. #LoveOneAnother 4. #UnityInDiversity 5. #CompassionMatters 6. #EmpathyForAll 7. #SupportEachOther 8. #PeaceAndLove 9. #RespectAll 10. #HelpingHands 11. #GlobalCitizen 12. #InclusionMatters

I recently had the opportunity to reflect on decoloniality within the INGO system after an unpleasant interaction with someone who refused to accept my technical stance and insisted on involving my HQ counterpart in a call and email exchange. After this experience, I spoke with a friend in HR about the situation. Her response was silence and a doubtful curiosity to learn more. After consulting with someone else, following the established protocol; their advice was, "you could let them know but remain anonymous and BE CAREFUL not to irritate them, as our funding depends on them." This made me realize that while some policies and stances are in place, and organizations make significant efforts to create a culture around them, power dynamics are deeply ingrained in our collective imaginaries. I don't blame those I reached out to, as they are products of the colonial legacy that mediates our global North-South relationships. We need to work harder every day to change this dynamic and set systems in place that allow for these difficult conversations other than an anonymous call to a third party. #Decoloniality #INGO #NonProfit #PowerDynamics #GlobalSouth #GlobalNorth #Equity #Inclusion #Diversity #OrganizationalCulture #Change

STATEMENT FOR FREEDOM 🌈 For many decades gay people have been judged, prosecuted, killed. Between 1933 and 1945 around 100,000 men were convicted under oppressive laws in the EU, and approximately 50% of them were imprisoned in concentration camps. You might think "That was almost a century ago, things have changed!" And while you are partially right, because things have changed, significant challenges persist. In 2024, homosexuality is still criminalized in 64 jurisdictions, and lesbianism in 40. In countries like Iran, Northern Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Brunei, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar, the UAE, and Uganda, being who I am still leads to the death penalty. In the EU, the situation is substantially better, but I am alarmed by the rise of extreme right-wing political movements, using too often a populist and non-nuanced storyline. These parties gain popularity by scapegoating minorities and advocating against gay rights, claiming these threaten our prosperity and traditional family values. Supporting such parties could regress our society to the early last century. This is why, in 2019, five friends and myself founded Forbidden Colours , a fund at the King Baudouin Foundation/Koning Boudewijnstichting and an NGO that advocates for dignity, (self-)acceptancy, and freedom of LGBTIQ+ human beings, and for positive change in LGBTIQ+ rights at the highest levels of government and public instances, both national and European. To learn more about what we have achieved so far check out www.forbidden-colours.com Recent research by Forbidden Colours shows that our rights are at serious risk in the EU! This is why we, in collaboration with our partner organizations and the amazing support of De Munt / La Monnaie , invite you to the STATEMENT FOR FREEDOM conference, with the participation of Foreign Affairs Minister Hadja Lahbib, Deputy Prime minister Petra De Sutter, political leader Pascal Smet, European Parliament member Sophie in 't Veld, Jallouad Alloul, Saskia De Coster, opera stage director Krystian Lada, Secretary of State for Equality Marie-Colline Leroy, Victoriæ Defraigne, Mayor of Brussels Philippe Close, Antoine Pickels, Alexandra Ana. For those of you living in Belgium we hope to see you the 13th at 19:00 at De Munt / La Monnaie. You can still register for free here: https://lnkd.in/eshTK3wJ And If you cannot join but would like to support our actions, please send me a PM. If you care about fundamental human rights and believe that people like myself shouldn’t be exposed to the risk of being discriminated, imprisoned or put to death, - let your voice be heard, - support Forbidden Colours, and/or one of the many courageous individuals and/or organizations who stand firm against discrimination, - contribute in any way that feels right to you. With the upcoming EU elections there is an incredible momentum to act! #humanrights #freedom #lgbt #gay #lesbian #equality #eu #belgium #noblepurpose
