⚖️Your Big Give Fuels #Peace and #Justice in #Nepal! When you give from December 3rd-10th to the Big Give #ChristmasChallenge you are making sure we can continue to stand by #defenders for years to come: https://lnkd.in/dmNqp2wA In October, PBI UK hosted defenders Mandira Sharma and Gita Rasaili as part of a report launch following a fact-finding mission to Nepal. The mission, led by an independent delegation of international lawyers to Nepal, provided legal analysis on the rule of law and access to justice in the context of ongoing efforts to implement a #transitionaljustice process: https://lnkd.in/dncpYkSP 🇳🇵Since the end of the #Nepali civil war in 2006, the government has failed to deliver justice for thousands of victims, leaving behind a devastating legacy of #impunity. This has resulted in life-altering injuries, psychological trauma, and the anguish of disappeared loved ones. Your Big Give can help amplify their voices and sustain this crucial work. When you donate, your contribution is matched, meaning double the impact. Now, more than ever, survivors and defenders on the ground need your support in their ongoing fight for transitional justice. They are courageously demanding #truth, #reparations, and #accountability.

In a noteworthy move, #Ukraine is set to begin issuing the first #reparations payments to survivors of wartime sexual violence inflicted during the ongoing conflict with #Russia. This initiative marks a significant stride towards recognizing and rectifying the profound injustices suffered by up to 500 identified survivors. This comprehensive reparations scheme, supported by the Global Survivors Fund and involving financial, medical, and psychological support, is pioneering in its approach. It acknowledges the severe impact of #CRSV and aims not just to offer economic support, but to restore justice and dignity to survivors. https://lnkd.in/dbynJjFA

🚫Survivors of conflict-related sexual violence are often reluctant to come forward because of stigmatisation, fear of reprisal, or lack of support. ⛓️Breaking the silence around sexual violence is an essential part of the journey for reparation. 🚺In Guatemala, the ‘Abuelas’ movement of indigenous survivors staged a public mock trial to challenge the stigma against survivors and raise awareness around the need to hold perpetrators accountable. 🫂Their efforts led to the creation of a resilient indigenous survivor community, inspiring others to seek justice, and eventually resulting in the conviction of former military members and an order for transformative reparation measures for survivors. 📖Read more about how the ‘Abuelas’ movement overcame obstacles to secure reparation, and other insightful case studies, in our report with the Global Survivors Fund 👇 https://lnkd.in/exAkaf_d

🟣Time for Reparations! People of African Descent Need Justice Now! For hundreds of years, African people suffered cruelty. Slavery stole our freedom. Colonialism took our land. Racism left deep scars. Even today, we face unfairness. Reparations could finally bring justice. Imagine if your family's history was erased. Imagine if your ancestors’ land was taken. These wounds still hurt. Reparations can help heal and restore dignity. Financial payments, land restitution, and education. Healthcare access and cultural preservation. It’s about restoring rights and creating opportunities. Reparations are a first step to justice. They show respect. They restore rights. It creates new opportunities. With change, we can fix this broken past. What do you think? Should reparations finally happen? Drop a comment and let’s talk! P.S. If reparations were a meal, Africa's plate would be overflowing! This post is inspired by the article "Promoting Justice for People of African Descent through Reparations" by Prof. Kariuki Muigua Ph.D,FCIArb,Ch.Arb,OGW. #TheLinkedInChallengewithInneh #DisputeResolution #ReparationsNow #EndSlaveryLegacy #HealingThePast #JusticeForDescendants

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons ‘No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms’, Article 4, Universal Declaration of Human Rights in relation to human trafficking. Human trafficking is illegal everywhere, yet it still occurs. Modern slavery is happening in our communities as an unseen crime in hotels, car washes, restaurants, nail salons and private homes. The essence of slavery is that of total control and dehumanisation of individuals. This year’s theme for World Day Against Trafficking is ‘Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking’. From Uyghur children being separated from their families and placed into children's re-education schools masked as ‘boarding schools’ and orphanages, to unaccompanied refugee children falling survivors to exploitation and trafficking across the UK, human trafficking remains untreated. Instead, too many UK policies criminalise survivors and abandon those trafficked to the UK, providing too few legal and safe routes and holistic support for survivors. From scripture, 'there is no mitzvah greater than freeing captives’, to forced labour camps during the Holocaust, slavery and trafficking are unavoidably connected to the Jewish experience. Our foundational narrative of a people led from bondage to freedom urges us to speak out, especially when faced with the inhumane reality of modern-day slavery and trafficking. It is so that we will understand that Egypt was not simply one place and time. It is any place and time in which people are not free. And because it is any place and time, it is every place and time. - Words of Rabbi Lev Taylor (2023) 🔗 Read our statement here: https://lnkd.in/eDbY73fY #humantrafficking #stopchildtrafficking #worlddayagainsttrafficking

➡ Our response: Reflecting on the current Violent, Racist, and Islamophobic Extremism being experienced across the UK We are horrified by the abhorrent rioting of far-right extremists over recent days. There is no place for hate in our country, and we stand together with all the communities affected. We honour the memories of Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, from Southport, as their families, friends and communities are grieving. We call upon local and national political leaders to stand up to the violent racist and Islamophobic extremism taking place and for colleagues working in criminal justice to bring every one of the rioters, arsonists, and violent attackers to justice. We call on them to recognise that this violence has not come about by chance, and represents the consequences of racist and anti-immigrant discourses and policies which have been perpetuated by large swathes of the media and political establishment for too long. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in our country, regardless of faith or background. People are now feeling the threat to their safety in the face of the violence, having to practice extreme hyper-vigilance, including not leaving their homes. If you’ve been affected by any of the violence over the last few days, please report this to the police and seek support from community-based organisations. We are really proud of our work supporting refugees, asylum seekers and resettling communities and we will continue to work to raise awareness of, and amplify the voices of minoritised and marginalised communities across the U.K. and internationally. We will continue to champion diversity through our education and awareness programmes. No permanent ceasefire agreement by the oppressor, after months of acting as mediators the US has failed in its highly questionable role. Their bridging proposal would allow a prisoner exchange, only for the oppressor to continue its war against civilians unabated afterwards. How can you mediate when you arm and supply bombs in their thousands and the planes to drop them on the babies, children and innocent to the oppressor. The world now sees the corrupted new world of American morality. On one hand a completely complicit supporter and enabler of crimes against humanity while claiming to act as a mediator whose only achievement has been to service the oppressors need for more time to kill more of the innocent inhabitants of Gaz@. None should be surprised that they have failed, there was no chance of success after providing the weapons to the criminal insane for them to slaughter more. No, the only way there was to end this madness was to stop arming the enemy of universal values from those criminal countries who have already lost in the court of world opinion. We and history will not be kind to the dishonest complicity of those whose actions or inactions has led to this horror. The world must do what was needed from the beginning, to isolate the oppressor from all international relations and systems, to stop any supples in or out, only humanitarian for we are not them. This has be completed and continue until they are forced to comply with the world’s desire to end this state sponsored terror. The answer is simple, however so far we have been too inept or corrupted to put in place what is needed to protect the innocent. Help us help the families of Gaz@ please donate and share https://gofund.me/c1c53cc8 #notinmyname #gaza #palestine #eyesonusall #evolutionoverrevolution #stopthegenocide
