Enjoy these takeaways: Embrace a ‘both/and’ rather than an ‘either/or’ mindset. - Embracing "both/and" alternatives in lieu of binary choices can help [leaders] build trust, resilience, and sustainable success for their organizations. This article is very worthy and valuable to repost, even when it is very true that the Tragedy of those leaders that don’t Lead will challenge those starting up with the inherit postential to do so, over forcing dangerous and blind KPI’s over visionary strategies that can exceed both revenue and market growth.
I recently read a great article by my dear colleagues from McKinsey - “The loneliest job? How top CEOs manage dilemmas and vulnerability,” by Gautam Kumra, Mukund Sridhar, and Joydeep Sengupta. This McKinsey Center for CEO Excellence article, based on insights from over 100 CEOs, delves into the complex dilemmas and loneliness at the top of executive roles. Some interesting ideas: 🔹Vulnerability as Strength: Contrary to popular belief, vulnerability is a potent source of strength for CEOs. Embracing vulnerabilities helps leaders forge deeper connections, build trust, and nurture a thriving organizational culture. 🔹Authenticity and Trust: True leadership is rooted in authenticity. Sharing personal missions and values deepens stakeholder relationships and enhances collaboration and trust across the board. 🔹Finding Balance: A CEO’s role requires balancing core values with innovation, short-term results with long-term growth, and individual empowerment with team cohesion. 🔹Embracing Trade-offs: Recognizing that not all goals can be achieved simultaneously, successful CEOs embrace trade-offs and seek creative solutions to transcend polarities, opening new avenues for growth. 🔹Support Networks and Peer Learning: Leadership can be isolating.
