How do you “balance” your work-life balance? For me, it’s about finding the right hobby, and one of mine is cycling. Changing activities is a great way to relax your mind and clear your thoughts from the work routine. Interestingly, while cycling, I realized that it’s not just a fun way to spend time, but it also helps me develop some useful personal skills. Teamwork. We plan our rides together, discussing the route, estimated cycling time, how many stops to make, and whether we should grab noodles along the way 😊. Regardless of the group size, we look out for each other, providing support whenever needed. During long-distance rides, when you are almost ready to give up, encouraging words of your teammate can do magic: “If I can do it, we can do it together” Strategic Thinking & Planning. Some rides are just for fun, while others require serious preparation and planning. For long-distance rides, having a strategy is essential to ensure you complete them successfully. This could mean endurance training beforehand, calculating calorie intake and average speed, analyzing the route, planning possible stops, and more. Just like with work projects, having the right strategy and proper planning leads to better results. Responsibility. When riding in a peloton, you are responsible not only for yourself but also for the riders in front of and behind you. Staying focused is crucial to avoid causing dangerous situations on the road that could lead to accidents. As an added bonus, cycling is a great way to network. If I could go back in time...🕰️ Happy Global Running Day! 🌍🏃♂️ Today is a perfect occasion to reflect on some key lessons I've learned from over 15 years of running & share the advice I would give my beginner self from all those years ago: 🔑 Consistency is key. Putting in the work week after week, month after month, is crucial. There are no shortcuts. 💪 Strength training is effective & beneficial for runners. Do it. 🛌 Intense training combined with poor sleep rarely ends well. Prioritize getting enough rest. 🔊 Listen to your body. Address minor aches before they become major issues. 🤷♂️ Some runs just suck; don’t overthink it. Just move on to the next one. 🚽 Never skip the pre-run bathroom stop.
