Financing the Frontlines... The National Department of Health is building the capacity of provincial leadership and its workforce on public finance management in the IMPACT Health-supported province of Central. Similar training has been conducted for East Sepik and East New Britain. Supported by the World Bank-funded IMPACT Health Project, this assessor training has raised interest from an additional 11 PHAs who also participated in this training held in Port Moresby early this week. Assessing needs, identifying gaps, and providing Public Financial Management capacity building is important as the PHA concept is newly introduced in some provinces and needs to have systems and processes in place to support PHA operation and health service delivery, especially at the frontlines!

About 1 billion people in low- and lower-middle-income countries lack access to healthcare facilities with electricity or facilities entirely without electricity. In Papua New Guinea, where 87% of the rural population lives in underdeveloped regions, many face significant challenges in accessing basic services. As a result, most experience poor healthcare due to deteriorating facilities. Through GREEN's Powering Healthcare Program, Munihu Health Centre in Papua New Guinea's Southern Highlands Province has significantly enhanced its healthcare facilities. The facility benefits from an off-grid solar-powered system that provides a reliable power supply, ensuring adequate lighting, clean water provision, and the operation of essential medical equipment. Since the successful completion of the project in 2020, GREEN through its partnership with the Southern Highlands Provincial Health Authority (SHPHA) is proud to have enhanced healthcare services for the people of Munihu and Southern Highlands Province. Compliance is essential
Environmental Social Management Plan Training by World Bank, KIEP Kenya, and Niras Empowering SMEs I had the privilege of attending an insightful training session yesterday on Environmental Social Management Plans (ESMP). The event, organized by the World Bank in collaboration with KIEP Kenya and Niras, focused on the critical importance of compliance with international and local laws in promoting effective business growth. Key takeaways: Compliance is not just a legal requirement but a catalyst for sustainable growth The training was part of a grants program for SMEs Emphasis on ensuring funds meet objectives and comply with all policies for successful claim payments I'm proud to have represented a company whose grant application I drafted, which was successfully awarded. This experience reinforces the value of expert guidance in navigating complex grant processes. Looking for grant writing support? “The shame is not in not knowing, but in not being willing to learn.” - Alison This principle has guided my work in management consulting, where embracing challenges and a hunger for knowledge are essential. I am proud to have recently supported the dissemination initiatives for the Human Resources for Health project across three Nigerian states. This effort, on behalf of the Sydani Group successfully engaged over 100 stakeholders, including policymakers, technocrats, and bureaucrats." This experience reinforced the power of shared knowledge and collaboration. Big news! We have renewed our partnership with the ESAWAS regulators association and are joining forces to empower water and sanitation utilities across Eastern and Southern Africa. This 3-year partnership will focus on enhancing the sustainability of water and sanitation utility operations in an effective regulatory environment. Here's what's exciting: 1. Stronger regulation: We'll work together to build frameworks that encourage #sustainable services, especially for vulnerable communities. 2. Building skills: Training and support for regulators and utilities to improve their expertise in pricing, service monitoring, and finances. 3. Sharing knowledge: #research, publications, and platforms to spread best practices and learning across the region. 4. Pro-poor advocacy: We'll champion policies and investments prioritising low-income communities and equitable access to water and sanitation. WSUP's Regional Policy and Regulatory Lead Eng. REUBEN SIPHUMA and ESAWAS Executive Secretary Yvonne Magawa signed the Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate around programmes and strategy. With them are ESAWAS's Research and Knowledge Management Specialist, Elisabeth Nahimana and Business Development Manager, Joan Asiimwe. #WASH #Africa #SDG6 #Partnership

The University of Energy and Natural Resources ,UENR Dormaa campus under the department of Planning and Sustainability had their first colloquium for the second semester with Community Water and Sanitation Agency led by Mr. George Nii Nortey Amartey. And privileged to be an attendee I share my thoughts on CWSA. The facilitator dispersed cognitive knowledge and practical based skills in a manner that students can get full potency of theoretical basis manifesting in practice. Among the many lessons, CSWA is duty bound for the provision of clean and potable water to rural communities nationwide. The program was very insightful, educative however it was also fund based entailing. Some of CWSA challenges were.. 1. Indequate funds from the central government 2. Poor road infrastructures 3. The devastating effects of galamsey Note that the CWSA was enacted by an act of parliament, Act 564, December 1998 which calls for collaboration with different stakeholders including World Bank, UKAID, World Vision, central government, local government etc. Many answers were received to many questions but I’m not certain with mine… Listen to the preamble..North East Region has been subject to lack of water for domestic purposes, why because the land is very dry especially off rainy seasons and so many communities fetch water from the Oti river which is about 8km and 9km approximately. Now such a project needs sufficient funding to initiate it and the facilitator said it can done by connecting pipes from the Oti river to communities. This is the question. Since it can done and hasn’t yet been done. What are some of the proposed alternatives to curb this water problem in the North East Region whiles advocating for support to fully engage in providing communities with potable water. I’m also very appreciative to these lecturers #Dr. Leslie Danquah, HoD for Department of Planning and Sustainability # Dr. Edna Agyapong #Dr. Mahatma Mudashiru # Community Water and Sanitation Agency Nationwide. Also, note that your opinions and contributions are warmly welcome. Thank you so much
