This week on the podcast, I’m joined by Dr. Uma Valeti, founder and CEO of UPSIDE Foods and a pioneer in the cultivated meat industry. We discuss the groundbreaking technology of growing meat from animal cells without industrial farming.
We address pressing issues such as global food security, environmental sustainability, and the ethical implications of our current meat production systems.
Uma walks us through the scientific process, regulatory challenges, and the potential for cultivated meat to transform our food system.
As a 17-year vegan, I even taste-test UPSIDE’s cultivated chicken products on the show.

It was an incredible experience sharing our story and passion for Regenerative Agriculture. Check out the full episode here from The Farm Traveler Podcast
Ok, so we really understand the need to eat good food. For our health and for a better environment. And we are ready to start growing our own food. But how do we then go about it when we have no idea how to farm, especially when the generational transfer of farming knowledge has ceased, with more and more people moving away from the profession?
In the third episode of Rootmaps - an immersive podcast by Good Food Movement - Shashi Kumar (CEO and Founder of Akshayakalpa Organic) talks to Nevin Thomas about how we can start growing our own food. The size of the farm does not matter -- it is all about who you grow the food for. When you farm with care, thinking about what you put on your own table, everything changes. Organic farming keeps the soil alive, protects your health, and honours nature. And what is the key to successfully doing it? Keep learning, observing, and adapting -- nature is always teaching you something new.

Coffee farmers are not growing their own food!!
True story...most are buying their veggies from the supermarket because they have been told that growing their own food steals nutrients from the soil that would be valuable for the crops they're trying to grow to sell!
This is yet another fact I have learned from "my professors" as we've been putting together our "Introduction to Regenerative Coffee Farming" live online event!
In this clip from last week's series, you will remember Angela del Pilar Barrero Bernal from our series where I learned about Biochar for the first time. (It's really where this journey began for me!)
You haven't met everyone's favourite professor...Carlos Ordoñez!
Take a listen to what they shared on the podcast last week....and please consider registering for the workshop.
If you're not a producer, this workshop is equally as important to you so please consider registering so that you know what the future of growing coffee is going to mean for us all (and how you'll talk about it to your customers)
