⚠️⛈️💨 DETAILED STORM WARNING The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 7:40 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near Bargo, the Nattai Tablelands and Mangrove Creek Dam. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Thirlmere, Mangrove Mountain and the Yengo National Park southwest of Wollombi by 8:10 pm and Gosford, Picton and Unanderra by 8:40 pm.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is predicting that neutral El Nino-Southern Oscillation (#ENSO) conditions will continue till the end of spring in the southern hemisphere (September 22-December 23). This virtually rules out the #LaNina weather event, which results in #Asia getting heavy rain and floods, emerging during the southern spring.

🌍 Summer 2024: European River Flows Hit by Extreme Weather Patterns 🌍 According to Copernicus ECMWF This summer, 35% of European rivers experienced notably or exceptionally low flows, particularly in the southeast, where heatwaves and low precipitation wreaked havoc. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) European Drought Observatory (EDO) issued consistent warnings for persistent drought conditions throughout southern and eastern Europe. Meanwhile, much of central Europe witnessed unusually high river flows, coinciding with areas that experienced record rainfall and more wet days than usual. Notably, southern Germany endured significant flooding in June, affecting the states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. #ClimateChange #Drought #Flooding #EuropeanRivers #EnvironmentalImpact #CEMS

How are spatial #drought and #flood extent in the Alps changing in a warming world? In our new study, we show that drought extent is expected to increase more strongly than flood extent using a newly proposed non-stationary stochastic streamflow generator: https://lnkd.in/dumREBFM

In this experiment, Dr Rob Thompson from University of Reading, Department of Meteorology shows just how long it takes a cup of water to soak into parched ground. The video, filmed in the Harris Garden, illustrates why heavy rainfall after a drought can be dangerous and might lead to flash flooding! Found this #research article in #BCWaterNews on how shifting atmospheric rivers are reshaping global weather patterns like #drought and #flooding. It underscores the unpredictability of weather patterns that could dramatically influence a region's propensity toward drought on what extreme and flooding on the other. A major area of much-needed innovation for the water industry is right here - in our ability to better predict the weather. https://ow.ly/56i050TU3cL

Latest drought update for Europe - minimal concern for north-western areas following very wet conditions there so far this year! Instead, all eyes are on the south and south-east with much of south-eastern Europe under mostly either a watch or warning, parts of eastern Iberia even under alert. One of our blogs from this morning goes into more detail: https://lnkd.in/dXzBJVSr It is so important to keep assessing the drought situation particularly ahead of the Summer months! If weather impacts your market then do not hesitate to reach out to any of our European Andrew Pedrini, Rhian Pearson or US Edward Vallee, James Caron, Atmospheric G2 Meteorologists! We blog daily on global weather events and offer a Platform full of weather data and forecasts. #weather #drought #precipitation #europe #energy #demand #energydemand #forecast #hydro #warmth #summer
