Very proud to be a part of this challenging project, well done to everyone involved.
An important project in Sydney’s south has taken a major step forward with the opening of the new bridge over the Woronora River at Heathcote. This upgrade will permanently improve this important connection between Sydney's south, Wollongong and the South Coast to Sydney's west. More than 22,000 motorists, including heavy vehicles, cross the Heathcote Road Bridge daily and we are now one step closer to improving traffic flow along this key route, with the new bridge eventually pairing with the existing bridge, which has spanned the ravine for 80 years. The new bridge has been opened to traffic in a temporary arrangement to allow maintenance work to be carried out on the old bridge, which was built in 1943 by the military during World War II and has provided great service. On completion of the project by mid-2023 (weather permitting) the new bridge will be for westbound traffic and the existing bridge will be for eastbound traffic. #Infrastructure #RegionalNSW #RoadSafety #TransportForNSW

1yI have been watching this one closely (and listening to the nightworks across the bush from my back deck 😊) as both a resident and a traffic engineering and road safety practitioner. A great project with a lot of complex site constraints. I will have to go for a drive tomorrow to check it out now it is open to traffic.
