Upskilling is important, but valuing existing skills is equally crucial. In today’s fast-paced world, we constantly hear about the importance of upskilling to stay relevant and ahead in our careers. While continuous learning is essential, there’s another aspect we often overlook: valuing and leveraging the skills we already possess in our current roles. It's great to add new tools to our toolkit, but how often do we pause to assess whether our existing skills are being utilized to their fullest potential? Are we, and those around us, recognizing the value of what we bring to the table right now? In our quest to constantly learn more, let's not forget to: Acknowledge our existing expertise. Our current skills have gotten us to where we are. They deserve recognition. Advocate for the utilization of our skills. If our roles don't fully leverage what we know, it’s worth having a conversation about how we can contribute more. Balance learning with application. Upskilling is only half the equation; applying what we know is where the true value lies.
