"My new book is called The Crisis of Democratic Capitalism. In essence, what it says is that our system, which is about the marriage of democracy with the market economy, is failing. It’s failing economically, and because it’s failing economically, it’s failing politically. That has left us open to profoundly antidemocratic forces, and we have to reverse this before it’s too late." Enjoy the reading! https://lnkd.in/d8uaYVbk

Writing my research paper and thinking about this... A government that violates one right will come after the rest, eventually. Think about that hard, long, and deep. Dude, literally I have evidence now that our government is a tyrant itself when it comes to our theories of economic policy and property.

This week there will be two new publications about degrowth and strategy. Here the first, by Richard Bärnthaler. This publication rightly points out at the need for degrowth to become more 'incisive' politically. This means to not always look for broad consent, and to think in terms of state rules of coercion (limits, caps, taxation, obligations etc.). Next one will be from me, on the same theme.....:P #postgrowthcities #degrowth https://lnkd.in/dMaQ6QJG

Before this newsletter was a newsletter, back when it was a “blog,” it was my little place to rant about politics. Then I combined it with my online diary. It will probably remain primarily my personal screed/journal combo. But if it’s going to do anything else, one primary goal, I think, is to be a place to read about politics (and social science and economics) where the value-add is something other than information and/or analysis that makes you angry and/or fearful. I believe the rest of the mass media ecosystem has that well and truly fully covered. https://lnkd.in/eYaSXkUw

6moI attended Armine Yalnizyan's lecture at this year's Canadian Economics Association meetings at the Toronto Metropolitan University. She delivered a powerful and thought provoking lecture on the "Caring Economy" that should be required reading for policy makers at both the federal and provincial levels of government.
