Did you ever had a discounted price higher than regular price? I did in Amazon Prime Days 📈 The Challenges of Discount Events and Prime Day Missteps Amazon Prime Days and similar discount events are eagerly anticipated, but not all deals are as good as they seem. Recently, I faced a pricing discrepancy that highlights broader issues in discount strategies. Prime Days and Misleading Discounts Amazon Prime Days, like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, promise significant discounts. However, I recently encountered an issue where a “discounted” keyboard was actually more expensive than its regular price. This isn't an isolated incident; last Black Friday, a Kamado Barbecue deal had impossible location requirements, rendering the discount fake. Despite receiving a 150 EUR voucher after a complaint, the problem persisted. ⚖ Regulatory Concerns Many regions have regulations to prevent deceptive pricing. These laws ensure discounts are genuine and prices aren't inflated just before sales. Misleading discount practices can result in legal consequences and damage consumer trust. If you are planning to do so on purpose, I would strongly recommend you not to do it. Plan your discounts as if you were your customer. Treat her fairly. Increasing prices for lowering is not fair. 💡 Conclusion Wrong pricing during discount events like Prime Days undermines trust and can lead to backlash. Retailers must adhere to fair pricing practices, ensuring transparency and genuineness in their discount strategies. This fosters customer loyalty, compliance with regulations, and a positive shopping experience. Consumers should stay vigilant and report deceptive practices to promote fairer markets. 💬 HAS THIS HAPPENED TO YOU? Amazon just announced their holiday sale Prime Big Deal Days for October 8-9, kicking off the holiday season. This two day event offers Black Friday like deals across categories for Prime members only. Other major retailers are following suit: 🎄 Target has scheduled their Circle Week from October 6-12. 🎄 Best Buy is hosting a 48 hour flash sale on October 8-9, going head to head with Amazon 🎄 Walmart is expected to announce their holiday deals soon, as they did last year, likely with similar timing to match competitors. Brands should strongly consider launching their own early promotions for two key reasons: ✅ Research shows that 25% of consumers plan to start their holiday shopping even before October. Launching promotions early let’s you capture a piece of that pie. ✅ As we approach the November 5th election, customer acquisition costs are expected to increase significantly due to political ad saturation. Launching promotions early offers a chance to reach customers while acquisition costs are still sane.

Early bird gets the £££? Amazon’s sales head start on 21st November, a whole 8 days prior Black Friday, helped it to ‘win’ the shopping event with a large and prolonged sales uplift before other merchants even got going. What's more, Amazon’s own products like Echo Dot dominated the top items sold list, aided by prominent offer placement on the Amazon homepage and tempting, 50%+ discounts. Notably, when looking at our Gener8 Snapshot survey data, we found that those raising a family made more purchases on average during Amazon’s Black Friday sales event. Has Christmas gift shopping been ticked off? #DigitalMarketing #Insights #Research #BlackFriday #Amazon

Holiday Sales Are Coming Fast: Is Your Inventory Ready for Prime Big Day, Black Friday, and Beyond? With major sales events like Prime Big Day (October 8-9), Black Friday, and Christmas on the horizon, many sellers are caught off guard by sudden demand surges. Without proper planning, inventory limits can severely impact sales performance. Here’s how Amazon’s Capacity Manager can help: ◍ Request Additional Storage Capacity Prepare for upcoming events by requesting extra space in Amazon’s fulfillment centers. Don’t wait until you’re facing a stockout during peak demand. ◉ Maximize Sales While Offsetting Costs For every £1 in sales generated with extra capacity, you’ll earn £0.15 in performance credits, allowing you to offset the reservation fee. With enough sales, you could potentially cover the entire cost. ◈ Secure the Best Reservation Fee By requesting capacity early, you lock in the lowest available reservation fee. Even if fees drop later, Amazon will match the lower rate—so there’s no downside to planning. Ensure you’re prepared for Prime Big Day, Black Friday, and the holiday season by maximizing your FBA capacity. #AmazonFBA #InventoryManagement #PrimeBigDay #BlackFridaySales #HolidaySales #EcommerceStrategy #FulfillmentByAmazon #CapacityPlanning #PeakSeasonSales #AmazonSellers

Amazon has been named the lowest-priced retailer in the U.S. for the eighth year in a row, according to an independent study. Here are a few key takeaways: 📊 Amazon’s prices are, on average, 14% lower than other major U.S. retailers across 15 categories. 🏠 Everyday essentials like household items, baby products, and beauty are 1-6% cheaper than competitors. 🎁 For top holiday gift categories (toys, electronics, and more), Amazon’s prices are up to 9% lower—something to consider as the shopping season ramps up. What struck me most was how this consistent focus on delivering value ties back to a simple, timeless goal: helping customers save money while accessing a wide selection of products. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday approaching, it’s clear that these efforts will only become more apparent in the weeks ahead. Pro Tip for Q4 Amazon Sellers: Avoid Overlapping Dates for Discounts 2024! As we approach the last quarter of the year, managing discounts becomes essential, especially during major events like Black Friday and Prime Exclusive Discounts. One common issue is overlapping dates: when both promotions are set for the same time, Prime Exclusive Discounts often get suppressed in favor of Black Friday deals. Here’s the Solution: If you want to offer both a Prime Exclusive Discount and a Black Friday deal in November, set separate dates for each. This avoids overlap, ensuring both discounts are visible to customers at the right times, maximizing visibility and conversions. #AmazonSellingTips #Q4Sales #PrimeExclusiveDiscount #BlackFriday #EcommerceStrategy #AmazonSellers #ConversionOptimization #LearningOpportunity

When is a day not actually a day? When it’s Amazon Prime Day… which in the spirit of relentless capitalism and consumerism is actually two days. The annual event is taking place today (July 16) and tomorrow and is essentially a summer edition of Black Friday. Basically, Black Friday… but in t-shirts and shorts. Without queuing outside a store in the wee hours of the morning in the November chill. And without having to stampede over fellow humans to snag that can’t-live-without-it food processor for 50% off. And following a flat month for U.S. retail sales in June (which was actually better than the projected 0.4% drop), consumers seem ready to unload. According to estimates from Adobe Analytics, this year’s Amazon Prime Day will notch $14 billion in spending – up 10.5% on the 2023 event. Broken down, Day 1 sales are forecast to hit $7.1 billion – up 11.3% year-over-year. And Day 2 sales will finish on $6.9 billion – a 9.2% increase over last year. Now, as an Englishman, I must admit an “ugh” factor that Black Friday has migrated across the ocean in recent years to be an event in the United Kingdom now, too. It’s neither Thanksgiving nor a holiday, but retailers there have latched onto it to boost sales, too. The same applies to Amazon Prime Day. Now in its 10th year, it actually features in over 20 countries (unsurprising, given Amazon’s global reach). And while it carries the Amazon name, other retailers piggyback on it, too, offering discounts on merchandise, plus additional loyalty deals for store members and cardholders. I have a bunch of things on my Amazon wish list and a $45 credit waiting to be deployed. But I don’t get suckered into the contrived Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Prime Day marketing. The items are “wants,” not “needs” and can wait. I will, however, spare a thought for frazzled Amazon workers in warehouses, distribution centers, and delivery drivers – the essential, yet unsung, foot soldiers facilitating the huge spike in Prime Day orders and sales numbers.
