Building a Society for All Imagine a world where everyone enjoys all rights, opportunities, and the ability to meet their full potential—where they are loved, valued, and celebrated as members of their families and communities. I refer specifically to people who today we see as different, however in the future we will identify them as gifted. We see with the eyes of children today, hopefully tomorrow we will see with the eyes of adults, that humanity can and should colour outside the lines. It's completely understandable to feel grief, despair, fear, and anger right now. You may even feel like you're drowning in these emotions. But what would it look like to swim?⁠ ⁠ It looks like organizing. This is the medicine we need right now. Organizing is how healing begins, and it's the path to actual change. I invite you to connect with others—online if necessary, but face-to-face whenever possible. Each of us has a role in building community and creating safety for everyone. Most importantly, we each have a responsibility to leverage any privilege we hold to support those who are marginalized, those who have been made to feel that their very existence is an offense.⁠ ⁠ If you're asking, "What can I do to make a difference?" then connect with organizations already doing the work you care about—whether it's reproductive freedom, social justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, climate change, or voting rights.⁠ In all our endeavors, we must listen to the voices of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ activists. These communities have led the fight for justice and equity, often at great personal cost. True allyship starts with listening and learning, amplifying their voices, and standing in solidarity for real change.⁠ ⁠ I'm still reeling from the recent gut punches, but I'm moving forward. Over the past few days, I attended Zoom calls with Indivisible and the Working Families Party, and connected with others at a "We Shall Overcome" gathering organized by members of Harris for Arizona.⁠ These small steps were medicine for my wounds and helped reinvigorate my spirit.⁠ ⁠ I don’t know exactly what the future holds, but I know one thing—I’ll keep swimming.
