"Doctors rarely advise patients to fall down a rabbit hole online. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do research. The best patient is the informed patient, according to Dr. Benita Petri-Pickstone. She says a vital aspect of self-advocacy is for patients to take an active role in their health, which means doing their research ahead of time so they can ask informed questions. Be proactive, raise any concerns with your doctor, and don’t hesitate to ask a multitude of questions, she says. 'The patient who tends to get the better care is usually one that is more vocal and asks informed questions about things based on what they’ve read and based on symptoms that they are feeling,' Petri-Pickstone says." #patientadvocacy #selfadvocate #cancerpatient #patienteducation #cancerdiagnosis https://lnkd.in/ePc3QMr4

Understanding the Clinical Frailty Scale: A Key Tool in Geriatric Care The Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) is a valuable tool used by healthcare professionals to assess the overall health and vulnerability of older adults. - CFS is developed to help predict outcomes such as hospitalization, mortality, and the need for long-term care - CFS uses a simple 9-point scale to measure an individual's level of frailty. - The scale ranges from "Very Fit" (score 1) to "Terminally Ill" (score 9) - Provides a comprehensive snapshot of a patient’s functional status by focusing on daily activities, cognition, and overall health. - CFS helps guide treatment decisions, improve patient outcomes, and allocate healthcare resources more effectively. As populations age globally, tools like the CFS are increasingly crucial in managing geriatric care allowing proactive interventions and early referrals for specialised support. By focusing on frailty, primary care providers can ensure that aging patients receive appropriate, holistic care that maximizes their independence and quality of life. How can we better integrate frailty assessment into everyday primary care to improve patient outcomes? #ClinicalFrailty #FamilyMedicine #PreventativeHealth #HealthcareInnovation #PatientCare #PatientOutcomes #FrailtyScoring #PrimaryCare
