Does your dog hate high vis? Or is it hoodies and hats?
When you connect with the human who is the business owner, and learn their stories, you get to the interesting parts of a business.
Like dog ownership, and the laughter that ensues when we connect over the completely inane idiosyncrasies of our pets.
(mine, for the record, hasn't been tested yet on high vis but hates herself some vans with diesel engines coming up the road. we live in the burbs, there's a lot of construction and courier vans, so it's annoying to say the least!)
The same goes for business performance.
Metrics and data will get you so much, but, without the high vis story behind the scenes, you'll never really get to the oomphy part of the business performance relationship.
So, when looking at metrics that you know count in your business, use this as the "go a bit deeper" thought worm... "what's the high vis story that I might not yet be seeing here?"
Use that as a curiosity tip to ask more, seek a bit more, and of course, use that context you already know and love (or laugh out loud while shouting at the dog a bit) to see it for what it is.
There's always something cool hidden in the stories we see day in and day out ... so what's yours showing you?
