From December 4–6, 40+ PATH staff members from over 10 countries gathered in Nairobi, Kenya, for the Global Digital Health Forum. This annual event, held outside of the US for the first time, illuminated the rising digital health leadership and innovation coming out of the African continent. PATH led 22 conference sessions on topics including #ClimatexHealth, #AI4Health, bridging the gender digital divide, and cybersecurity and health data protection. Some key takeaways from #GDHF2024: 🌍 To respond to the climate crisis, we must integrate health and climate data to help global and local decision-makers understand and plan for changing disease patterns and the health impacts of climate change. 🖥️ AI-enabled tools have the potential to powerfully support health care providers with diagnosis & treatment planning and to provide patients with critical health information. But to be safe and effective, they need to reflect the needs of local users and the local medical context. 📶 Governments and funders must prioritize #DigitalPublicInfrastructure. With adequate funding and supportive policies to expand key infrastructure such as broadband networks and data centers, digital health tools can reach their full potential in rural and underserved areas, driving meaningful progress in closing the digital divide. 1wGreat to see PATH's active leadership and insightful contributions at the Global Digital Health Forum 2024. I had the opportunity to attend virtually this year and was truly inspired by the discussions around integrating health and climate data, leveraging AI for localized healthcare solutions, and bridging the digital divide. Looking forward to seeing these transformative ideas take shape in global health systems.
