This year’s theme, "Listen to the Future," emphasizes the critical need to pay attention to children’s perspectives, dreams, and ideas as we shape a better world for tomorrow. Children are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are active stakeholders today. 👥 Bringing Children to the #Voting Booth Matters 🗳️ And Allyson Felix is making it easier for women to #VoteLikeAMother by partnering with Chamber of Mothers to help reduce one key barrier to voting: #childcare. Together, they’re offering free/reimbursed child care services in several states, helping parents access the polls. What to make of this chart by the electoral calculus team?? https://lnkd.in/ea3kKngs They've clustered people into 'tribes' for voting. It looks like political apathy strikes everyone aged 35-54 as none of the tribes feature that age group very highly. But women like me - over 55 - are completely invisible, it seems. We're not there, in any of these voting tribes. Yet women over 55 are the people I see feature very strongly, as a demographic, in any event I attend or campaign I see on the subjects of health, education, social care, family support, the arts, climate action, nature connectedness, social justice, regenerative practice, community building, volunteering, SEND, disability rights, domestic gardening ( I could go on but I think you get the picture). These are the people who, disproportionately, have been the ones holding all those spheres of life together in spite of determined political efforts to dismantle, de-fund, undermine, even criminalise them. I applaud every one of you.

On this day that celebrates Mothers around the world - from our own Mothers to all of the women identifying people to care for their children - I want to share what I have been reflecting on today. All of these incredible humans have active accomplished, or are accomplishing at least many of these steps (and we equally celebrate those who have fostered, adopted, and otherwise cared for children): conceiving a human, nurturing them in the womb, giving birth to a baby human(!!!), raising a child while loving, teaching, guiding, feeding, healing, and watching over them, often while being an active member of a personal relationship, and actively working daily to thrive and succeed in their chosen career. Take that in. Now, I ask: if one single person can do all that (and sometimes with multiple children), why can't we entrust at least 50% of our invested capital in their abilities to lead, learn, thrive, adapt, be resilient, bounce back, multi-task, be empathetic, see the long play while dealing with the tactical, and never - ever - give up? Idea Brainstorming 2024 Dec 10 No.3 My second point is who works at drop-ins. Many drop-in services rely on strong supporters of social justice. They were or are built in minority groups or are people who have intersectioned identities, who are marginalized in Canadian society, and share similar experiences. They're economically weaker than the privileged and already segregated, work for social justice for any amount of compensation, and because of this, they easily encourage themselves to burnout. This could segregate social workers, case workers, and co-medical staff together with people in the groups, even if they come from outside communities. Additionally, social work, co-medical fields, women's studies, queer studies, and disability studies academics are already segregated in academia. They do research at nonprofits that also offer drop-in services, use resources and clients, and are rebuilding each other within the system of "Social Stratification Segregation."

Whether it’s healthcare, social security, or community programs, it’s vital to ensure that these programs are robust and responsive to their needs. - Celebrate their achievements. Whether it’s in the arts, sciences, business, or any other field, many older persons continue to contribute significantly to our society. On this International Day of Older Persons, let’s commit to creating a world that respects, honors, and uplifts our aging adults. Let’s bridge the gap between generations and build a future where every person, young or old, feels valued and respected. It's important for all of us to be independent, but there are some things that we can't do and need some help. ...without tradespeople coming for "little jobs", women tend to look to their informal networks of friends, neighbours or other trusted personal connections, but that has diminished with time... "[We] seemed to have lost a little bit of that knowledge of who's able to help others, who has the time to be able to help, and having that connection in the community where people can support each other when they have a need." "... with local newspapers folding, there aren't many mechanisms for older women to keep across community activities and programs offered by local Neighbourhood Houses, U3A groups, and Probus clubs that could support their independence beyond their personal network. "There's a whole wealth of activities out there if you know where to have a look," she says. And if something isn't available, women should ask.
