California's approach to clearing homeless encampments is raising concerns among healthcare providers and advocates. Despite investments in programs like CalAIM, which aim to provide care and housing support to homeless individuals, recent crackdowns are disrupting crucial connections and setting vulnerable populations back. This article from California Healthline highlights the impact of these sweeps – from missed appointments and lost medications to the fraying of vital trust between care providers and the communities they serve. The question remains: How do we balance public safety with the need to ensure continuity of care for our most vulnerable? Read the full article to understand the challenges and complexities surrounding this critical issue: https://lnkd.in/g_Sy-dhQ #PublicHealth #Medicaid #HealthcareReform #CalAIM

As more and more people learn about the benefits of enrolling in a hospice program for end-of-life care, the number of people choosing to die at home has also risen. Studies show that those who die at home are more likely to have a better, more peaceful transition than those who die in the hospital. If you’re unsure whether receiving end-of-life care at home is right for you, here are some things to consider: https://lnkd.in/gp5uUstY #EOL #EndOfLifeSupport #Hospice #EndOfLifeCare #TerminalIllness

More than one third of older Australians live in rural and remote locations, yet when they need to access an aged care home, it often means being separated from their communities and loved ones. Regional providers like not-for-profit Whiddon know it takes more than goodwill to keep operating in regional areas, and more support is needed to keep families together. “One key strategy to better care for our regional communities is a multi-pronged approach between state and federal governments, working cooperatively with providers towards a collective goal,” writes Whiddon CEO Chris Mamarelis in Aged Care Today. Care Campaign for the Vulnerable (CCFTV) has been made aware of a troubling case involving the eviction of an elderly resident following the breakdown of the relationship between the family and the care home. While evictions are unfortunately not uncommon when disagreements arise, no vulnerable individual should face such distressing circumstances without appropriate mediation and support. In this particular case, the family is hesitant to name the care home involved, fearing potential retribution against their loved one. This is deeply concerning, as families should never feel silenced or fearful when raising valid concerns about the care their loved ones are receiving. Transparency in care is vital and when families feel they cannot speak out, it undermines confidence in the system. At CCFTV, we understand how distressing these situations can be for families and dedicated to offering comprehensive support to families facing such challenges, helping them navigate the difficult conversations that arise in these circumstances. We provide guidance on how to engage with care providers constructively, ensuring that the family’s concerns are heard and addressed. CCFTV serves as a voice for families, advocating for open dialogue and pushing for solutions that prioritise the well-being of vulnerable residents. In addition, we work to prevent escalation by facilitating mediation between families and care homes. CCFTV’s approach is focused on finding a balance between protecting the rights and dignity of the resident that supports a cooperative environment. CCFTV believes that every eviction case can and should be approached with compassion and sensitivity, with the goal of avoiding unnecessary distress to the resident. We also recognise that these situations are rarely simple and require patience, sensitivity, and careful management of expectations, that serve the best interests of the vulnerable individuals involved. CCFTV will continue to monitor this case closely, advocating for the rights of the family and ensuring that the care home fully acknowledges our involvement as we work toward a constructive and compassionate resolution.#Evictions #Support #Care #Families #CareHomes

#Homelessness is hugely expensive for everyone. A new study of the public's cost burden of homelessness in Toronto (my home town) reports the healthcare system spends per capita 7 x as much on the homeless as on the housed. https://lnkd.in/gGKhFVd3 The homeless spend nothing on dental care. And that is part of the problem. Poor oral health turns into malnutrition, diabetes, mood disorders, respiratory and cardiovascular problems ... Getting the homeless to the dentist is just not in the cards. But delivering preventive oral healthcare via #Prevora, is feasible because it involves no equipment, requires no compliance, is quickly and painlessly delivered, and works to manage the cause of both cavities and gum disease. Society saves lots of money with Prevora.
