Via circulated email: Physical Review Letters has officially launched End Matter, an up to two-page appendix to a letter. See the Editorial "Whither Letters?" https://lnkd.in/gQUtbtvd, explaining the motivation for and definition of End Matter. The first Letter published with End Matter can be seen here: https://lnkd.in/gyY7M4Q8. (From what I, PP, gather, Supplemental Material is still allowed.)
What is the difference between a Physics Review Letter and a letter in the Physical Review ?

4moif End Matter is being used to extend the letter: then why not publish a longer paper? Also: I can't see the justification for publishing a 'coherent pair' of PRL and regular article. If the full story is available, then just drop the PRL.
