Fresno Housing developed its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Framework in 2022 to undo past harm and build up marginalized communities. 🌍🤝 📋 One strategy identified in Fresno's framework was developing a supplier diversity program to encourage a diverse pool of vendors to apply, increasing the competition of bids. Fresno staff worked with the Black Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Administration to facilitate outreach, education, and advisement to diverse vendors in the community. 🏢🤝 🔍 The program has helped demystify the application process, locate Section 3 businesses, and encourage more diverse vendors to bid. 💼📈 📖 You can read more about Fresno Housing's initiative and access our latest report, "Public Housing Authority Pathways to Advancing Equity," here: https://lnkd.in/ewX7uS_n #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #PublicHousing #SupplierDiversity #CommunityEngagement #BlackChamberOfCommerce #SmallBusiness #AffordableHousing #FresnoHousing #AdvancingEquity #FairHousing #InclusiveCommunities #Section3Businesses

Today, Leeds Community Homes Ltd have launched ‘Community-led housing for all: Opportunities and challenges for black and minority ethnic community-led housing.’ This significant new research finds that community-led housing has the potential to tackle racial inequalities within the housing system, but there are barriers to achieving this that need to be addressed. Building a fair society is reliant on diverse representation in all spaces. But the research also reveals the under-representation of black and minority ethnic people within community-led housing. As a co-funder of this research, and as a long-term committed funder of the community-led housing sector, we’ve published a detailed response to the research outlining the steps we’ll be taking in response to the findings, particularly as we plan for the next phase of our strategy. Take a look at our response and the full research findings here: https://lnkd.in/eeuZNPFb Claude Hendrickson MBE Tom Moore Yael Arbell Gary Hartin Jimm Reed Henri Baptiste

Affordable childcare is common sense.
"Affordable child care is common sense. It's good for parents and their kids, and it's good for our economy. We have already made great progress, with 330 of inclusive child care spaces already created and a record percentage of women participating in the workforce. We will keep working hard until we cover every rural community in Alberta." - Connecting Dots Foundation Team

Did you know that April is #NationalFairHousingMonth? As we look back on the pivotal moment of the Fair Housing Act's passage in April 1968, it's essential to recognize the ongoing journey toward achieving equitable housing opportunities for all. Fair housing isn't just about legal compliance. Access to safe, affordable housing is a basic human right, yet discriminatory practices and systemic barriers persist, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities. Now more than ever, we must advocate for comprehensive, equitable housing policies that address historical inequities and promote inclusive communities. By championing fair housing practices and advocating for policies that dismantle barriers and promote diversity and inclusion, we can create a more just and equitable society for all. #Housing #HousingJustice #HousingEquity

Brownsville, Brooklyn, has a strong history and presence of community activism and action. While the neighborhood has experienced economic and social challenges, that strong foundation means the community can build toward an equitable, safe, and hopeful future. A report earlier this year from Urban Institute and our team at Brownsville Community Justice Center, which was supported by JPMorganChase, provides us with an overview of Brownsville’s current landscape and proposes a ten-year equitable development plan led by the community. The plan has four main components: 🌱 Economic opportunity. 🏫 Education and youth development. 🏙 Housing. 🌻 The built and social environment. Read the full report to find out how this plan can become reality: https://lnkd.in/euAzGhVV #Opportunity #EconomicJustice #Equity

Honored to be in this month's spotlight for The Partnership for a Healthy Durham: Member Spotlight Name and Affiliation: James Davis, City of Durham Department of Neighborhood Improvement Services Describe what you do or what your organization/department does: Neighborhood Improvement Services is a community-centered organization that works with residents and across city and county departments to provide the highest quality services to inform, engage and encourage resident civic participation, to ensure safe housing, to quickly respond to public nuisances, and to eliminate discrimination in housing, employment, and places of public accommodation. I provide strategic oversight of the Human Relations Division (Core Objective: to end unlawful discrimination in housing, employment and places of public accommodation by enforcing the City's Non-Discrimination Ordinance (NDO), the federal Fair Housing Act and other relevant civil rights laws). I also provide oversight for the Community Engagement Division (Core Objective: to advance equitable community engagement by strengthening relationships, enhancing civic capacity, and leading inclusive practices within the City.) How did you become involved in the Partnership? My involvement was prompted by the vision of the past Director of Neighborhood Services, Constance Stancil. Ms. Stancil, whose leadership style included a collaborative approach to improve the quality of life of Durham residents, noted that the work of the Partnership fit within our department's vision and mission statement. Furthermore, the work of the Partnership aligned with elements of the City's Strategic Plan and other strategic approaches. In short, our respective organizations have a vested interest in the health, wellbeing and quality of life for our residents. Do you serve on a committee? I currently serve as co-chair of the Health and Housing Committee. What do you love most about Durham? One of the things I love about Durham is its audaciousness. One of my staff often states, "do it like Durham". He says this in reference to our bold leadership; aiming to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. We are not perfect, but we strive towards innovative and practical ways to beget communities where equity is a reality.
