One of the first things I did when I relocated was visit the public library to get my new library card. If you don't have a library card, you're missing out on TONS of free resources! These vary from system to system, of course. For example, Montgomery County, Maryland public library system has so many of resources for job seekers! Just this month, you can take advantage of: 👨💼 Virtual meetings with career specialists 👷♀️ Virtual interviewing workshops 📝 Job and resume help - in person - even for first-timers 🗣 Q&A with WorkSource Montgomery advisors There are computer skills courses, including help with how Google Docs works (handy for job searching). They also have access to online training vendors, INCLUDING LinkedIn Learning. FOR FREE, y'all. The only catch is, you gotta have a library card. 📚 But it's free, and it's easy to get one. Visit your local library, or check out their website to see what valuable resources they may offer, whether career-related or otherwise. https://lnkd.in/gFR5bJMD

Lessons from Volunteering and Community Work Some of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned came not from traditional work but from volunteering and community involvement. My time as a children’s church leader and running a Bible club taught me lessons in leadership, patience, and the power of connection. Organizing activities for children and coordinating teams in a faith-based setting honed my skills in planning and adaptability. These experiences translate seamlessly into professional settings. Whether I’m guiding a client in CV writing or collaborating on a research project, the communication and organizational skills I gained are my foundation. Have you discovered unexpected skills through volunteering? Drop them in the comments – let’s celebrate the hidden strengths we bring to our careers! #volunteering #community #transitioners #communitywork ____________________________ My name is Yemisi, A dedicated CV writer. I specialise in helping individuals craft compelling, results-driven CVs that stand out from the crowd. With a focus on highlighting your unique strengths and aligning your qualifications with your career goals, I ensure that your CV makes a lasting impression on potential employers and academic institutions.

ProTip: Your resume doesn't just have to include jobs and accomplishments you were paid for! Volunteer activities and even some hobbies can be excellent ways to demonstrate your skills. For example, you can include groups you volunteer for, accomplishments from your hobbies like helping to organize a community concert, and so on. Your professional accomplishments should still be the focus of your resume, but these accomplishments have contributed to skills that you'll be able to use on the job so they're excellent highlights to add.
