On August 20th, we will begin testing the new revamped version of the AudioCat platform! 🎉 Just this week, we opened sign-ups for those who want to be part of the testing—primarily to assess accessibility, but sighted people are welcome to join too. Both of our audiogames, Wordy and Echoes of Valor, will be even more exciting with the new platform version. Valor will now feature 3D sounds and free roam movement, which is something I’ve always envisioned. It’s important to me to design games without limitations, allowing my creativity to truly soar. This time, I’m incredibly happy and excited to see the final product of my imagination come to life. 🌟 In September, we’ll be adding new audiogames, which I’m thrilled about—I’m already nearly finished with one! We’re also rolling out an achievement system and working on implementing an in-game store. 🛒 And there’s one major surprise coming in September that I’m really excited about, but I want to be 110% sure of how it will unfold before I make the announcement. Last week, we had the privilege of hosting Allan Cudicio, who graciously shared his journey from Game Designer to CEO and owner of his own gaming company, highlighting the lessons and challenges he encountered along the way. With over a decade of experience in both large and smaller gaming companies, Allan, an Italo-Ghanaian game designer, embarked on his own venture. Currently immersed in the development of his own game projects, Allan's expertise spans both gaming and entrepreneurial realms. His insights into fostering successful, diverse, and inclusive environments were invaluable. What makes something a game? Simply said, a game is created when something "over there” is more important than what is “over here.”  For example, in the game of basketball, “ball in hoop” is more important than “ball in hand.”  The important thing to notice is that there is nothing inherently important about “over there” – we make it up! So the moment you determine that something “over there” is more important than what is “over here” – you’ve now created the game – get over there! The next aspect to recognize in a game is the point system.  Now, the point system in a game tells us what is important and valuable. In our example, the important “ball in hoop” is most often worth 2 points. It is critically important to remember that just as the game was invented, so was the point system.  Getting a ball through a hoop is not inherently worth anything – we are the ones who say that it is worth something, and that something happens to be 2 points.   Professor C. Thi Nguyen, a writer on game theory, says “The structure of a game isn’t that the points are valuable, but the attempt to get the points, the attempt to win the game sculpts some kind of interesting, valuable, or beautiful activity.” Why do millions of people tune in to the game of basketball?  We are interested in watching the attempt to get the points – the interesting, valuable, and beautiful activity. So, in business, we can create games.  We can make up something that is more important than what we currently have over here.  We can create a point system to determine how much that “over there” is worth.  This can help us sculpt an interesting, valuable, and beautiful activity. A Pitfall to Watch Out For Games are powerful – they determine what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. A game tells us what to care about. 💭 Having a kid requires one to be very creative. Think coming up with ideas to entertain your kid 24/7. Let me be honest. It is HARD. 🤯 To my surprise soon I started coming up with better games, bedtime stories, tasks. Hey, I even came up with a character called Max The Spider named after Max Verstappen (I am a bit too much into Formula 1, I admit). What I noticed happening at the same time surprised me. I started finding more creative solutions in work-life situations. In his “Skip the line” book James Altucher wrote that creativity is a muscle. 💪 I can confidently say being a parent is like a creativity gym. Encourage curiosity in your kids. ⚡️ Follow their steps and use that for your work. This will bring a lot of rewards: rapid testing and iteration, improved innovation, and, of course, amazing pivot ideas for your business! #creativity #startup #parenting #pivot
