We have learned over the years that Structured Visual Thinking takes patience and curiosity. 'Curiosity makes people hungry for knowledge—but not necessarily in a hurry' https://lnkd.in/e3WxN2VA #structuredvisualthinking #strategy #strategicthinking #decisionmaking #decisionquality #business #csuite #creativity #marketing Scientific American

...very happy (and proud!) that the first book in my new book series, "The Regulation of Digital Technologies", with Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, has just been published: "The Contractual Networks of Digital Commons", by Prof. Angelos Kornilakis, 👉 https://lnkd.in/dXtj2uMc Not only that, but it is written by a long-time friend and distinguished colleague: with Angelos we go as back as in the mid-1990s, in our student days in Frankfurt. Re the abstract, "The work deals with Digital Commons. These are a case of the new organizational forms developed in the realm of digital economy and fall under the notion of “Network Enterprise”, substituting the classical hierarchical forms of firms with horizontal cooperation between independent agents. They are hybrid forms of organization, which reject both markets and hierarchies, as the two mainstream organizational modes of conventional economics. They are based on individual autonomy combined with egalitarian cooperative mechanisms, trying to reap the best of the organizational structure of firms without sacrificing individual autonomy."

I am thrilled to announce that our paper titled "Labeling Comic Mischief Content in Online Videos with a Multimodal Hierarchical-Cross-Attention Model" has been published at the #LREC-COLING 2024 conference and is now accessible online. In this paper, we address the challenge of detecting comic mischief in online media, which combines elements like violence, adult content, or sarcasm with humor. Our novel end-to-end multimodal system leverages video, text (captions and subtitles), and audio to capture these subtle details. We also introduced a novel dataset specifically designed for this task, consisting of video, text, and audio modalities. We introduce the HIerarchical Cross-attention model with CAPtions (HICCAP), designed to capture the inter-modality relations. This significantly improves the performance in comparison with existing models and empowers users to make informed decisions about the online content they view. I also had the opportunity to present our work at the conference, which was a fantastic experience. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to my advisor, Thamar Solorio for her invaluable guidance and support. Special thanks to the other co-authors and mentors Mahsa Shafaei, Yigeng Z., and Hugo Jair Escalante for their hard work and contributions to this project. Stories for business?!?!?!?! Why not? The power of a good narrative lies in emotional involvement. We all know that buying decisions are emotional, and rationality is then used to justify it. So why are we sales pitching all the time? Wouldn't story be a better approach? Tease, them, captivate them, get them involved. Let them learn something from you. What are our thoughts and experiences using story in a professional context? https://lnkd.in/eFXCXMCn

Over the past decade, the power of narrative has been unleashed with awesome and terrifying consequences, and it has been consumed in its blurred media forms by millions of people as news, entertainment, and education. "Imagining Transmedia" explores the surprising ways that narratives working across media forms became the default grammar for both media consumption and personal expression and how multiplatform storytelling creates new media literacies and modes of civil discourse. This book is available in both a paperback and #OpenAccess edition. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/4f5AWlZ
