The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is proposing an update to workplace protections for fire fighters and other emergency service personnel, marking the first significant revision in over forty years. While OSHA indicated that numbers are most likely under reported in the report, 3 things stand out to me: 1. Fire/ Emergency Response 2. Striking/ Crushed/ Collision 3. Heart attack This is why I'm passionate about ensuring my firefighter brothers and sisters make it home safely at the end of the day! I can help assess your building and/or business to ensure it meets the National Fire Codes standards, proper permits, and show you why. #martellosafety #occupationalhealthandsafety #firesafetyplan #firefighters #iaff #yyc #workplaceprotections #employeesafety

A safety harness is a system of restraints that prevent the wearer from falling from a height. According to the Occupational Health & Safety Administration, the most common cause of worker injuries is falling. But with the use of effective fall protection systems, such as a full-body safety harness, it is greatly avoided. To ensure safety, use the correct size harness with no twists in the straps and examine the safety harness before using it. Equip yourself with industry-certified safety harnesses. 🚨 Confined Spaces Can Be Deadly 🚨 The Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Surveillance Program has issued a hazard alert after 56 tragic worker deaths in confined spaces in the state from 1994 to 2022. Confined spaces may be more common than we think and are not always easy to recognize, making them extremely dangerous. Confined spaces are areas not designed for continuous occupancy, but large enough for a worker to enter and perform tasks. They often have limited openings for entry and exit, and can pose significant risks such as lack of oxygen, toxic chemicals or fumes, and extreme temperatures. To keep workers safe, it's crucial to train and prepare them to identify and evaluate these risks before entering confined spaces. Employers should develop comprehensive safety procedures, conduct regular training, and ensure emergency plans are in place. Safety is a shared responsibility. Let’s prioritize awareness and training to prevent further tragedies. Stay safe out there! #WorkplaceSafety #ConfinedSpaces #SafetyFirst #NASP #WorkerProtection #SafetyAlert

The regulation became effective September 30, 2024. Many senior leaders I've worked with ask the same question.... why and how? at its core most accidents happen because the safety management system was either inadequate, or had gaps. There are typically rules in place, training was given, gear and PPE issued but yet 56 avoidable losses of life still occurred. I challenge you to look at your foundation, build it, reinforce it, close the gaps and the structure you place on top will be much more stable. in this case the structure is your workforce. ANZI Z10 is a great start, and I beleive it all starts and ends with a robust management system. accountability, rules, policy, training, and even standards all rely on a sound foundation.
