Sorry to break the news but there is NO perfect job: ↪ Every Data Scientist spends half the time gathering & cleaning data ↪ Every Software Engineer spends half the time debugging code ↪ Every Entrepreneur spends half the time recruiting people and cleaning up the mess ↪ Every Sales rockstar spends half the time making cold calls to uninterested guys ↪ Every Marketing Manager spends half the time writing emails & creating presentations Each job is made up of daily mundane tasks and no job is exciting every single day. Learn to do the boring work, do it well and do it consistently and you will never have shortage of employers begging for you. #scholarstrategy #careeradvice

Having great technical skills is important, but to become successful in your career, you need more than the code you write or the data platforms you build. The real value is in the impact you bring to an organization with those skills. It’s not about who can write the cleanest code or build the most complex systems, it’s about how well you can use those skills to solve real-world problems. Many people get caught up in perfecting their technical abilities, focusing solely on building the most sophisticated platforms, but that’s only half the journey. The other half is understanding the business problems at hand and figuring out how to use your skills to create practical solutions. You might be a fantastic coder, but if you can't solve the issues the company is facing or create solutions that drive growth, you won’t go far. It’s not just about having the skills; it’s about knowing how to use them to solve problems, drive impact, and meet the needs of the organization. That’s what makes you valuable in any team or company. Focus on the impact your skills can make, and then success will follow. DataInno Analytics #dataengineering #dataanalytics

There's a common misconception that becoming a data-driven organization means hiring a team of data scientists and buying expensive analytics software. The truth is: Building a strong analytical culture starts with mindset, not tools. It's about: - Fostering curiosity - Encouraging experimentation, - And valuing evidence over intuition at all levels of the organization. Yes, tools and talent are important. But without the right culture, even the most sophisticated analytics capabilities will fall short. #3Decisions_3Catalysts #AIStrategy

❗️The hardest thing about being a non-technical founder is explaining to people that my goals are different. I'm trying to effect change, not marginally improve a technology process! ⛔️At a conference last week, a guy asked me, to "express technically, how I PLUM solves data aggregation" He was calling out why I'm building a data solution when I'm not technical enough to code myself. 🚀 My response? "Because I'm not an engineer I can imagine a new solution that will give my future customers a optimized customer experience without the shackles of preconceptions and technical limitations". I'm abstracting all the engineering away so the front line can innovate without knowing "how" data transformation happens. 🔥 What I know as a career Sales and Business Development Leader that has closed 9 figure deals with the worlds largest Institutions, is that the lever that sells billions of dollars of a product is the customer experience. -- not technology. 🎯That's why at Plum Labs, we start with the customer experience of Risk and Portfolio Managers and work backwards for the technology. ✅️I have a strategy and a vision for Plum Labs, and it started with asking --- “How can we create a data discovery experience for front office risk and portfolio managers that feels like discovering an App on an Apple iPhone?" --- "How would they innovate if they had data at their fingertips?" ❌️I did not start with “Let’s sit down with the engineers and figure out what awesome technology we have and then how are we going to market that?” My scar tissue tells me that’s the right path to take. ---‐---------- Snowflake:: built by database managers for data engineers Palantir:: built by data scientists for data scientists PLUM Labs:: built by the front line for investment managers. #innovation #riskmanagement #venturecapital

"What do you do?" 👹 For a while, I called myself a "translator" — bridging the gap between hyper-technical, semi-technical, and non-technical users when explaining concepts. Then I leaned in fully to the "integrator" role — the person who made one system work with another. After that was the "aggregator" role — the person that collected and summarize granular data. There was the "analyst" role where I pulled insights from data, the "segment creator" role where I isolated audiences from one another, and the "coder" role building custom solutions when nothing else seemed to work. But at the end of the day, none of these roles make sense in isolation, and none of them represent the full scope of what I do; so I'm ditching them in favor of a purpose: "I make data readily available, easy to understand, and even easier to act on." #selfaware #purpose #itysl

connecting dots: People always used to tell me that if I focused on one thing instead of dabbling in various activities, I would have achieved more today. They said it to me so often that I'm starting to believe it myself. Over the past six years, I've ventured into content creation, sales and marketing, programming, machine learning, data analysis, dashboard design, backend programming, and server management. Yes, these are all very diverse, and some of them are quite unrelated. The reason was that I followed my heart each time. I didn't know what I should do, so I learned whatever I was interested in. Since I started my career in tech, I've realized that I should have taken all of these more seriously. Being a good employee, someone who's not just a programmer, requires handling various project management tasks. When I decided to start digital marketing and combine it with my knowledge of data to create a targeted marketing system, everything fell into place right before my eyes. I no longer feel ashamed to say that I've done various things in my short career. What about you? What have you been up to? #careerdevelopment #digitalmarketing #followyourheart

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a new role, and I'm developing some tunnel vision in my search. I have a few nice interviews lined up, but I'd like to add one that's "a bit different". Can you help with some creative suggestions? Perhaps a few interesting companies to follow? I'm searching along the following parameters (in no particular order): ✔️ Roles I have considered in the past: Business Analyst, Analytics Translator, Researcher ('Onderzoeker', non-academic), Product Manager, Business Consultant, Trainer, Data Manager ✔️ No-go: Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Data/Solution/Cloud Architect, financial sector, management roles, Data Science, Product Owner, community building, Tech Lead ✔️ Topics: energy usage or systems, cities/urban areas, infrastructure (e.g., road systems, building sites, rail, trains), water systems (rivers, sewage), predictive maintenance (industrial stuff), processes, and supply chains. In short, tangible stuff. ✔️ Skills: abstract problem solving, using my creativity, learning new things, creating things that don't exist yet, cleaning up / ordering stuff, asking questions, analyzing. ✔️ Travel: Max 1h from Leiden Central Station by public transport ✔️Caveat: if I can work 3 days a week, I'm willing to let go of many of my constraints (except traveling) [Photo by Karan Mandre on Unsplash]
