My very first job, at age 14, taught me a lot. I worked as an assistant maintenance guy at a mobile home park in rural southeast Ohio. That summer, the septic system for the park had an issue. The head maintenance guy handed me a shovel and told me the pit had to be shoveled out. It was hot, stinky work, and I was earning $2.00 an hour. I spent the afternoon shoveling human crap (and other things people flush down a toilet). So what did I learn? 1. No job is beneath me. (Why I never utter the phrase, "I don't get paid enough to do this.") 2. If it is worth doing, it is worth putting your best effort into the work. 3. There is pride in a job well done even if the job is stinky, gross, and maybe not even legal. What are some great lessons you learned from your job(s) before you found your career?

The position a person has should not determine if they deserve respect or not. A street cleaner, a janitor, a CEO, and worker all deserve the same level of respect. If you are treating everyone you come into contact disrespectfully other then those you deem "worthy" you are wrong. Why does the CEO deserve to be respected, and the janitor does not? EVERY job serves a role in society. No job deserves to be looked down on. Every job helps all of us in some way. If you take a minute to get to know the people you come into contact with you might learn a great deal.

𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆𝗅 I noticed a wind gauge on top of the lighting rig for this feature-length Netflix production that has been on my block all week. I don’t play in the feature film space (outside of that one day working on "Wet Hot American Summer"), but I always enjoy noticing the little details of how they work. The scope and scale of these projects can be astounding, and union jobs like this one are where excellence in every department is actively practiced and refined. When I mention my work in production at social gatherings, the question that invariably pops up is about the Key Grip's role. It’s a nuanced answer. In this case, they are the ones who rigged the lights to be lifted on this condor boom arm, and they hold the highest authority regarding safety on set. With the winds howling in Brooklyn this week, I was reassured to see the extent to which they went the extra mile to ensure the safety of everyone and everything for this epic shoot at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I call Brando Productions an ethical production company because we go the extra mile in three core aspects of how we do business in ways that set us apart from many of our peers, including: 1. 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 2. 𝗢𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 3. 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 In the future, I will be posting more content exploring these three subjects and how we maintain a commitment to building and refining our systems with them in mind while delivering excellence for our clients. #videoproduction #onsetsafety #ethicalproduction
