I read an Ad Age article this morning about how brands are cutting back on work with marketing agencies. This one was specific to DTC brands, but other brands seem to be following suit. 🤯 I'm surprised. Both as a former agency director and someone who built a career working for agencies. The immediate impact of hiring in-house marketing talent makes sense. 🔹 It's cost control—one employee's salary may be less than a monthly retainer. 🔹 You get someone who knows the brand inside and out. 🔹 Pivots can be quicker and more cost-efficient with an in-house team. But the long-term implications don't add up. 🔹 If you have fluctuating workloads, hiring internally may not be practical. 🔹 Working with an agency, you often get expertise from across the board in all channels and verticals. 🔹 When you're too close to your brand or marketing initiatives, sometimes you just need an unbiased perspective. 🤔 Agency owners and execs: Has your business looked a little different in 2024? How is your agency staying relevant? ***** 💭 And in case you're seeing me in your feed for the first time, hi! 👋 I'm Amanda, a copywriter and content strategist. ⚡ I help agencies, in-house marketing teams, and business owners electrify their content marketing efforts. I'm a big fan of virtual coffee and chill conversations. If you are too, let's chat! ☕ #marketingagency #contentwriting #freelancewriter

Know the difference. I see a lot of job openings in digital marketing. Companies are looking for digital content makers. Why they are unable to find the right person is because what they are looking for is a ONE MAN ARMY. Before you create an in house communication and content team first know the different roles that are required to make a good team. A traditional advertising agency has three departments for creative ideas: The Client Services The Concept Team The Art Team A lot of companies do not think about hiring a CS person simply because they think there is no client. Wrong! The management is the client. You need a bridge, a person responsible for ensuring the completion of tasks. Creatives are not trained to follow up so we see a lot of delays in everyday tasks. Then comes the concept team. A bunch of people who think of ideas and put these down in words. They work with both the art team or external vendors like production houses to execute ideas. The art team although is the one that creates the final product but is not suppose to write or present. So understand a few things: A content writer or a copywriter is not a designer. A designer or art person is not necessarily a concept writer or a CS. A creative director is not a film director and a film director cannot think like a creative director. My experience tells me that combing job roles usually means loss of quality. So next time you hire a digital content team know that content writers, designers and production heads are three people and not one. #HR #DigitalContent #digitalmarketing #CreativeDirector

The editorial and content industry is a bit of a tailspin, no? That's why I'm compiling interesting (and fresh) job leads for my network. Please share, follow, and send me tips! This week: senior-level jobs for health content leaders. 🏥 Senior-level Jobs for Health Content Leaders All six figures and on-site 🚗 🏢 1. NYC: Content Engine Lead @ Pfizer My take: They need a fantastic content strategy person and process-minded people manager who's pretty much done it all. (https://lnkd.in/gCYmYr5d) 2. San Diego: External Comms Lead @ ResMed My take: Needs to be someone with plenty of PR experience, not a recent pivot out of editorial/journalism. "...fast-paced role is pivotal in driving ResMed’s day-to-day communications and public relations efforts." (https://lnkd.in/graDiyuB) 3. NYC: Creative/Content Lead @ Tonal My take: Best for folks with multimedia/visual content experience in addition to words. "Tonal seeks an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and creative leader to work cross-functionally on content and creative productions and oversee studio operations." (https://lnkd.in/gmg9J77J) (Related LI post: https://lnkd.in/gBQWwiAG) 🤔 WHY? I have a content job that enjoy, but I know too many talented copywriters, editors, and content leaders who are underemployed. This is a way to give back to an editorial and content community that has always been generous to me.

🔵 I’m Hiring a Social Media Manager! Are you a skilled Social Media Manager looking to make an impact? This is NOT a Content Creator role. If you’re ready to take charge, I’m looking for a freelancer who can work independently and proactively build my brand. You must be available during Eastern Time working hours and come with a clear plan. What I’m looking for: • Strong knowledge of social media apps and tools. • Proven experience with real work I can see—LinkedIn, Facebook, and IG links are required for review. • Must have excellent grammar and communicate clearly. • This role is results-driven—I depend on you, not the other way around. • No interest in agencies unless I can see proven work. How to apply: 📍 Comment below with your LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram links so I can check out your work. No DMs or unnecessary calls—let your work speak for itself. Note: I’m only interested in those who are serious about this opportunity. Please do not waste my time with Zooms or PowerPoints—I want to see action plans that build my brand. Let’s make this happen! #MichelleAWilson #TheAccountantTaxAndBizCoach #SocialMediaManager #Hiring #NoDMs #FreelancersOnly

What’s it like working as a fractional CMO?🤔 It’s an interesting mix! I get to work on multiple brands at once and handle all aspects of marketing—from performance to brand strategy. From strategy to execution, it’s hands-on across the board. I also get to collaborate with a fantastic extended team (people that I have worked with in the past who are experts in their own domain)—graphic designers, content writers, video editors, SEO experts, and web developers. Together, we bring campaigns to life. One of the best parts? Working directly with founders. It’s rewarding to dive into their business problems and work side-by-side to solve them. There are some difficult days when things don’t work, but it’s rewarding when you start seeing results from your work. Sometimes, it's a solo journey when it comes to problem-solving and strategizing—those can be long, lonely stretches. I definitely miss my old team every now and then. But the freedom is unbeatable. It's well-paying, and I can decide when I want to work and when I need a break. That balance is a huge perk. PS: Picture of me working from an aweosme island (more deets in a future post someday). And the shot glass is filled with Honey 😆 #FractionalCMO #MarketingLife #EntrepreneurJourney #Consulting #BrandStrategy

Unexpected team changes are rarely fun. But being down a marketing team member with Q4 KPIs around the corner might be one of the most stressful places a CMO can find themselves! Instead of dipping into next year's budget for a new hire, try this: Add contractors and freelancers to your team to help cover the gaps. At Freeman+Leonard, we can connect you with design pros, copywriting wizards, ad specialists, and even fractional CMOs who can step in and right the ship when it feels like everything is going overboard. Your team will have the breathing room to step up and acquire new skills - and they'll feel valued and supported by the extra help you've provided. Many of our clients have built relationships with contractors who are happy to be "on call" for these kinds of emergency (or otherwise) situations when you need a few more hands on deck. Interested in building a bench of your own? Reach out, and let's talk! #futureofwork #contracttalent #fractionalexecutive

You are not hiring a Social Media Manager..... if you hire them with the expectation that they will conduct market research and generate creative content ideas; instead, you are hiring a strategist, content creator, and creative director. That is why "Social Media Management" is no longer a side note. The times have changed.... and you should now realize that investing in a Social Media Marketer's services is crucial and that you should allocate enough money for their knowledge. P.S. What's the cost of poor Social Media Management? Lost sales, damaged reputation...the list goes on....🤷♀️ #socialmediamanager #freelancer #contentwriter

Would you do the work of an entire department? And only get paid for the work of one person? Some companies certainly think you could. I can only speak for #MarketingRoles here. I see many #JobPostings talking about a specialist or very niche role. But if you keep reading the #JobAd. You'll realize they want you to do the work of an entire department. It could start with a specific task related to that role. And then branch into employer branding. Internal communications. Website optimization. Sales management. Email campaigns. Market reports. Copywriting. Running ad campaigns. Running all social media accounts. Fighting a bear every Tuesday morning. Taking the CEO's dog on a walk at 9 AM. It's even worse when they advertise it as a junior role. And inexperienced folks take the bait. Believing that's how it's supposed to be. Only to find out they signed up for a living hell rewarded with miserable payment. I'm not saying every company does it. I'm only asking you to pay attention and open your eyes. No matter how desperate your job hunt might be. YOU SHOULDN'T BE ANYONE'S SLAVE! PS If you represent a company that knows their specific needs related to #Marketing and #Writing. Now is a good time to get in touch with me. I'm on the market and ready to be nabbed by some great folks, y'know. Don't mind the "The Gaming Copywriter" thingy in my title. I can work in any #CreativeIndustry or creative environment.
