Stop mislabeling! Why your Executive Assistant is NOT your office assistant! The job title sets the stage for everything that follows. Too many companies are failing to define the Executive Assistant role. It's not a placeholder for any support position and certainly not interchangeable with general office duties. Yet, businesses misuse this title, assigning it to tasks ranging from entry-level admin to senior-level strategic roles like Chief of Staff. This confusion doesn’t just create frustration; it leads to hiring the wrong people for the job. The Executive Assistant role is crucial in directly supporting executives and handling critical tasks that keep leadership focused on the big picture. If you dilute this role by adding unrelated tasks, you're not just wasting time but setting yourself up for a revolving door of disappointed hires. The solution is straightforward: define the role clearly from the start. Know exactly what you need, and don’t try to fit experienced EAs into roles that underutilise their skills or misrepresent their purpose. If unsure, talk to someone who understands the position's demands. That clarity will save everyone time and ensure you attract the right talent. #executiveassistant #ea #easearch ➔EA Search - A specialist staffing agency dedicated to placing executive assistants, Personal Assistants, Chiefs of Staff, and business support staff across the UK and the US. 📣 Join our talent pool using the link in the comments 📣

So true, thank you Faith Taylorson for bringing this into focus. Since there is this general tendency to make EA roles a hot pot of anything which doesn't really fit in other departments, it does not really allow for fair and clear-cut benchmarking of the roles for fair remuneration assessment. You won't normally through all "office work debris" into a job description of a risk analyst or an accounts payable expert - why does it happen with EAs? Then the onus is shifted onto assistants to prove their worth coping with unrelated stuff. They often have to work twice as hard just to cut through this and focus on the original essence of the role which is supporting top executives. This leads to frequent burnouts and higher attrition rates. The churn of EAs at some top companies is quite scary. We need to talk more about this. This is quite easy to solve - if only EA roles received as much attention as other peer contributors to the business. #executiveassistants #personalassistants #ceomindset #strategicself

𝗟𝗲𝘁´𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 Lately, I've noticed a trend: Administrative Assistant positions with job descriptions that read like those for Executive Assistants. These roles are not the same, and it's crucial we use the correct titles. As an Executive Assistant, you take on all the tasks of an Administrative Assistant—and then some. Here's what sets an Executive Assistant apart: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: You'll juggle multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring each one is completed successfully. 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: You manage the demanding schedules of senior executives, overseeing their professional lives to ensure nothing is missed. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻: You act as the bridge between your executive and everyone else, including direct reports, vendors, and other executives. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Your phone will be your constant companion, always buzzing with calls and messages. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘆: You must be wherever your executive is, ready to assist at a moment's notice. 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: In the executive's absence, you'll represent them, ensuring their presence is always felt. These points only scratch the surface of an Executive Assistant's responsibilities. The essence of the job lies in understanding the executive you support—anticipating their needs and preferences before they even realize them. This role demands precision and offers little room for error, but it also provides immense learning opportunities and exposure. 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗥 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲: Let's not blur the lines between these roles. An Administrative Assistant is not an Executive Assistant. Posting positions that require Executive Assistant skills should come with appropriate titles and salaries. #ExecutiveAssistant #AdministrativeAssistant #CareerAdvice #HR #Recruitment #JobTitles #ProfessionalGrowth

I couldn’t agree more. Being an Executive Assistant comes with a specific skill set to supporting your executive/s. Having meticulous knowledge, skills, and competencies for the specific needs of the business to execute on your executive/s behalf is crucial to directly supporting leadership.
