In this one meeting we had 15 Oregon counties represented! Leaders, facilitators, researchers, direct service providers and all around smart and big-hearted humans from around the state gathered as part of their participation in the #UpstreamInitiative. Our design pilots and learning communities discussed what is happening in their region as they intentionally design a local Child Success Model that addresses the needs and buttress the protective factors for families in the First 1000 Days of life (pregnancy, birthing, postpartum, 0-2 years). It is clear that each community has overlapping and unique needs and strengths, highlighting why this type of place-based cross-sector collaboration is so important as we mobilize to conceptualize a Child Success Model, focused on this precious time period of the First 1000 Days, that is flexible and resourced enough to ensure every child, family and community have what they need to thrive.

🚨The latest MBRRACE-UK report paints a bleak picture of worsening outcomes for all women and birthing people and a failure to address the persistent gap in outcomes for Black and Asian communities. We know that individuals, families and communities have been left with a lifetime of trauma and devastation as a result of the worst possible outcomes presented in these figures. Now is the time to take action. ➡️Read our full response and why we are calling on the government to introduce a new SAFE Maternity Care Act to protect the human rights of all women and birthing people at: bit.ly/MBRRACE24. #latestnews #Birthrights #maternity #MBRRACE #humanrightsinchildbirth #pregnancy #NHS #childbirth #maternitycare

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) annual report highlights urgent risks facing the future of our health and social care system if children and young people cannot access the essential support they need. At The For Baby’s Sake Trust, we echo these concerns and see, every day, the impact that a lack of accessible care has on vulnerable families—particularly those affected by domestic abuse. Without timely, high-quality health and social care, families facing multiple adversities, including domestic abuse, are left with unmet needs that can significantly impact the safety, wellbeing, and development of their babies and young children. Early intervention and a coordinated approach to care are essential to break cycles of abuse and support parents and children to heal and thrive. We urge decision-makers to prioritise investments in family-focused, trauma-informed services that can intervene early and help prevent the long-term impacts of domestic abuse. By doing so, we can work towards a health and social care system that gives every child the opportunity to grow up in a safe, supportive environment and reach their full potential. The reason for my current OT research project ➡️ ongoing UK maternal health inequalities, where black and Asian women are significantly more likely to die during pregnancy and birth than their white counterparts. Early intervention occupational therapy could be a novel approach to reducing this gap. #birthrights #maternalinequality #maternityOT #occupationaltherapy #earlyintervention

📢 Birth partners are not visitors. A birth partner of choice is a vital lifeline to women and birthing people in the life altering hours surrounding childbirth. ❗Two years on from Covid, some Trusts and hospitals are still limiting or severely restricting birth partners from being with women and birthing people. ▶ In our new campaign area: bit.ly/partnerres you’ll find resources about your human rights around your choice of birth partner and an email template for you to challenge birth partner restrictions when imposed. There’s also information for healthcare professionals on how to support women and birthing people and uphold human rights law. #birthrights #birthjustice #birthpartners #pregnancy #childbirth #maternityrights #maternity #humanrights #humanrightsinchildbirth

In some recent research from Female Lead/Peanut, when returning mothers were asked what they wished for. After flexible working, the second most wished for thing was to be asked what support they needed. 52% wanted this, and yet only 21% were asked. It breaks my heart when I read stats like this, listening is such an easy thing to do and yet so few of us do it - we're too busy thinking about the answer, distracted, too busy to be present to what others are saying. If you work with working mums or know of any, I really encourage you to make some proper time to ask how they are. Just to listen, without any agenda or as a tick box exercise. And if they say fine, acknowledge that and also ask them what could be better? Because I guarantee there will be something they want to share. Even if you can't do anything about it in the moment, it will make a huge difference for working mums just to be seen and heard ❤️ And Beyond Jessica Rosevear #returningmothers #pregnancy #maternity #inclusiveculture #workingmums

The rising cost of living undoubtedly makes it a challenge to raise kids these days. A comprehensive financial plan and budgeting can really make a difference. Prioritise spending, save wherever possible, and importantly, teach our children the value of money too. After all, they are the future. #FamilyFinance #CostOfLiving #ParentingChallenges #pregnancy #babybump #pregnant https://lnkd.in/gj4Y89GN
