Here are some highlights: • Representatives from the Electrical Industry Certifications Association delivered comprehensive updates on their program, emphasizing the steady increase in certifications and the implementation of digital testing for improved efficiency and precision in our operations. • ProtechSkills is undergoing a domain transition to .edu. This strategic move will enable the offering of credit-bearing courses eligible for transfer to other higher education institutions, reinforcing our commitment to continuous learning and professional development. The question: How can we help prepare our current apprentices to become effective mentors and future leaders? ❓ The solution: Provide apprentices the opportunity to work with high school pre-apprentices; preparing our current and future apprentices simultaneously! 👍 And, when should we do this? National Apprenticeship Week of Course! Today, the 3rd-year Des Moines and Cedar Rapids Telecommunication Apprentices spent time with electrical pre-apprentices from Central Campus. The 3rd-year apprentices did an outstanding job teaching, training, and sharing experiences with the pre-apprentices. They took the time to demonstrate how to accomplish each task, provided guidance, answered questions, and showed great patience; allowing each pre-apprentice the time they needed to complete the task. After the lab was completed, the pre-apprentices evaluated their mentor. They received nothing but positive feedback from the students! 5/5 Would Recommend! 💯 And the pre-apprentices? They were engaged and excited about the opportunity to learn something new, but even more excited to hear about the electrical industry from the apprentices they were working alongside. Today, meet Salutatorian Landon Doty of the WECA Utah Commercial Electrical Apprenticeship Class of 2024. He works for WECA Utah Founding Member Contractor Hunt Electric, Inc. "Having gone to other schools first, I can confidently say that I would love to have started from the beginning with WECA," says Landon. "We discussed some of the curriculum that my class didn't get to cover elsewhere, and some of the material that we did get to cover at WECA...I can only imagine how much better it would be to have gone through WECA sooner." "WECA is fun. Having many more labs than previous schools was a treat. WECA also gave me access to many concepts, products, and scenarios that I had never seen until it was required of me. I can now more confidently approach numerous uncommon tasks. I have spent many hours being moved around with tasks and learning new ways of approaching tasks. Learning to install is important, but having the chance to learn how to learn has been greatly beneficial," continues Landon. Congratulations, Landon! TESP is asking electrical contractors across England to offer a T Level ‘industry placement’ to help support the next generation of electricians and gain great benefits in the process. T Levels, the new technical training route for 16-18 year olds, are a Level 3 qualification taken over two years, where the learner spends 80 percent of their time at college and 20 percent in the workplace. Learners need on-site experience via an industry placement to gain on-site skills and knowledge. Once they complete their T Level, learners can progress onto an ‘accelerated apprenticeship’ already with skills and knowledge under their belt, making for a shorter apprenticeship training programme. The benefits of offering a placement include increased productivity and efficiency, as well as giving something back to the industry’s future workforce. “We all remember that first opportunity we got in the industry when we first started out; this is now your chance to give that same opportunity to someone else” said Nathan Smith, TESP Skills Ambassador. “It’s not just the feel-good factor that comes with passing your skills and knowledge onto a young learner, it’s the business benefits that come with it as well. On 7-04-2024 marked exactly a decade since I joined fqm as an electrical apprentice in their apprenticeship program.i have not attained the level at which I felt I would but am glad and happy that am heading towards the right direction. I have learnt that Lies and grapevine are part of the work environment due to different back grounds.so avoid such and stay away from people who practice such.
