I highly recommend this video series on health and nutrition by an ex-neurosurgeon. He noticed that patients with specific lifestyle factors healed so quickly that, by the time surgery was scheduled, they didn’t need it anymore. The videos explore these factors, especially nutrition, focusing on healthy carbohydrates, whole unprocessed foods, and plenty of vegetables and fruits. Other factors include low stress, exercise and good social relations. In the second episode he discusses how our sodium and potassium intake has shifted dramatically in recent times. Humans are quite unique in their ability to sweat, which allowed our ancestors to be great endurance runners and hunters. Unlike most animals, which need breaks to cool down, humans could chase prey over long distances without overheating. Sodium was crucial for this ability, but it used to be a scarce resource, so our bodies became very efficient at absorbing and storing it. Today, with sodium so abundant, our intake far exceeds that of our ancestors, contributing to various health issues like chronic inflammation. The videos are slow-paced and meditative, but I really appreciate the focus on how our bodies are not adapted to the modern environment and what we can learn from it, combined with the anecdotal evidence from his neurosurgery practice. #Healthcare #Nutrition #Carbohydrates #Sodium #Health #Inflammation
