Knowledge: Knowledge is the ‘stock of the trade’ of LIS. But for individuals, as philosopher Jiddu says, knowledge is the enemy of innocence and love. Further “a man who is burdened with knowledge, with instructions, who is weighed down by the things he has learned, is never free. He may be most extraordinarily erudite, but his accumulation of knowledge prevents him from being free, and therefore he is incapable of learning.” Reconciling philosophical view with business of knowledge is challenging. #knowledge #burden #Learning

If you really are smarter than others, show them with your actions. It is a natural human reaction for you to wish to correct others when you see them make a mistake or doing something differently than you would have done it. It is far more difficult to control the impulse to show them how much more intelligent you are. The ability to recognize and control such impulses marks the beginning of the development of wisdom. A wise person knows that when he shows his intelligence with the actions he takes, others learn a far more valuable and lasting lesson. If you see someone who could benefit from your advice, you can gently lead him to a more appropriate conclusion by asking open-ended, non-judgmental questions. Let others find the flaws in their reasoning by leading them logically through the process. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "The secret of education lies in respecting the pupil." Tao Te Ching – Verse 70 My teachings are easy to understand and easy to put into practice. Yet your intellect will never grasp them, and if you try to practice them, you’ll fail. My teachings are older than the world. How can you grasp their meaning? If you want to know me, look inside your heart.(translation by Stephen Mitchell, 1995) -+-+-+- My words are easy to understand, easy to practice The world cannot understand, cannot practice My words have basis My actions have principle People do not understand this Therefore they do not understand me Those who understand me are few Thus I am highly valued Therefore the sage wears plain clothes but holds jade (translation by Derek Lin, 2006) -+-+-+- The words have no meaning, Outside Nothingness. . . . I must leave soon. (translation by Jeremy M. Miller, 2013)

Studying stoicism and classical education (The Trivium) is increasingly important not just today, but going into the future. - Grammar Stage teaches knowledge - Logic Stage teaches understanding - Rhetoric Stage teaches wisdom As Marcus Aurelius provided, “Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present” Thus, we must ensure reason is taught. Afterall, we only have power over our own mind…not outside events. When we realise this, we find strength. Then when armed with reason, we can shape our mind, temper the effect of emotion, and shape our world.

"大事必作於細,難事必作於易。" The source of this quote is often misattributed. The original sentence can be found in Chapter 63 of the Tao Te Ching by Laozi. The essence of this teaching is about addressing challenges before they become insurmountable and starting significant endeavors while they are still manageable. Despite the common misattribution, the philosophy behind this wisdom is valuable and worth learning.
