The evaluation verified the project's positive impact, across carbon, biodiversity and people. This score reflects TIST's contributions to over 98,967 tCO2 in estimated annual carbon reduction, supporting 4,378 endangered species, and improving the livelihoods of over 10,000 individuals. 🌿🌳 Embracing Change: Mitigating the impact of Climate change in Coffee Landscapes 🌱☕ Good news from HRNS Tanzania! Through our Integrated Carbon and Coffee-based Livelihoods project, we distributed over 100,000 shade and fruit trees to 1,000 coffee farmers. 🌳☕ While 50,000 trees were also distributed to the district authorities in Mbinga district in Ruvuma region. Additionally, 50,000 trees are scheduled to be planted in the water source and degraded areas during the rainy season 2023/24.🌧️ Our pilot project aims high, reaching over 2,000 smallholder coffee farming families. How? By nurturing diversified, biodiverse, and productive smallholder agroforestry systems. 🌿🌳🍎 This isn't just about planting trees; it's about transforming livelihoods and landscapes. Here's what we've observed: 🌱 Soil organic carbon and shade trees are crucial carbon pools on coffee farms. 🌱 Shade trees play a significant role in carbon storage and farm productivity. 🌱 Agroforestry practices mitigate coffee farms' carbon footprint while boosting production and climate resilience. Our agroforestry scheme is more than planting trees — it's a beacon of sustainable land management, transforming local livelihoods and bringing back precious ecosystem services 🌳 This January, 35 lead farmers gathered in Phalombe district for a two-day training, immersing themselves in the practice of integrating crops with tree species like Faidherbia albida and Gliricidia sepium. These farmers, now equipped with essential agroforestry knowledge, have begun transforming their plots in Mount Mulanje’s buffer zone, planting seedlings for a sustainable future. These pioneers are not just transforming land; they're also becoming change agents within their communities. With a goal to engage 1,225 families, these lead farmers are spreading the word about the benefits of agroforestry to their friends and neighbours. The result? Love this. - H/t Mongabay 🌍💚🌳 Australian agronomist Tony Rinaudo’s reforestation project in Niger was failing, with 80% of his planted saplings dying, until he stumbled upon a simple solution in plain sight: The degraded land contained numerous stumps with intact root systems capable of regenerating themselves, plus millions of tree seeds hidden in the soil, which farmers could simply encourage to grow and reforest the landscape. “An invisible forest in plain view.” Thus began his journey promoting farmer-managed natural regeneration (FMNR), which has reforested 6 million hectares (15 million acres) in Niger — an area 2x size of Belgium — and even more globally. 🙏 “The biggest change that I see when I go back into these communities is the restoration of hope,” Rinaudo says. “If you can put yourself in the shoes of these families who struggle to feed their children adequately [and] then here comes this very, very simple concept, literally a solution at your feet which empowers you and enables you to create that future that you want..." #Reforestation #ClimateChange #Sustainability #GreenTech

"Producers have experienced the systematic reduction in the yield of crops in the area to which they respond that it is due to the fact that it has stopped raining, which is why this project is a response to the need for the return of rainfall cycles." On the edges of the Andean foothills in Peru bordering the Amazon rainforest, and on the OFP Atlas Explorer, new forest projects spearheaded by Centro de Innovación y Gestión para el Desarrollo Sostenible make their debut. In an area with high demand for #reforestation due to poor agricultural practices of the past, these communities are spearheading sustainable methods of livelihood creation through reforestation and agroforestry. Project goals include: 🌲Increasing forest cover in the project area. 🌲Improving the profitability of agricultural activity. 🌲Reducing deforestation 🌲Generating livelihoods for the family and production. 🌲Producing food. 🌲Adaptating to the effects of climate change. With an expected project duration of 30 years, the Centro de Innovación y Gestión para el Desarrollo Sostenible will initially use Open Forest Protocol for robust digital measurement, reporting, and verification services to track and monitor the health and growth of vital forest plots.
