Toyota North America has raised concerns about California’s upcoming zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandates, calling the 2026 target of 35% ZEV sales "impossible" to meet. With the national average for EV and PHEV sales at just 9% and no state meeting the requirement, Toyota's Jack Hollis warns of potential market distortions and limited consumer choice. These mandates are part of a broader plan for 100% ZEV sales in California by 2035. #Toyota #ZEV #ElectricVehicles #CaliforniaMandates #SustainableTransport #EVSales #CleanEnergy #AutomotiveIndustry #GreenTransport #FutureOfMobility

So, the EU will require the majority of new light vehicle sales to be EVs in 2035. The focus of this linked article is a discussion on the challenges to be confronted by EU OEMs in achieving this mandate. So, what if OEMs begin designing their ICE light vehicles to be efficiently remanufactured to extend the life of ICE Installedbase that is currently 12X that of new product sales? As a result, the sale of new light vehicles would materially decrease, with remanufactured light vehicles absorbing the demand with like-new products. Will this be a way to circumvent the edict? Has EU bureaucrats have even considered such an alternative? Note that remanufactured products embrace the circular-economy business model that has a much greater lifecycle impact upon sustainability/environment than EVs would ever have. #oem #auto #remanufacturing #circulareconomy #ev #ice https://lnkd.in/e9fEK6uW

The EV craze has caught a lot of automakers off guard. While the push for electrification is strong, many OEMs lost sight of what customers actually want. Volvo just adjusted its fully electric goal, and other giants like Volkswagen and Ford are delaying EV plans too. The reality? Charging infrastructure, affordability, and incentives aren’t keeping up. As Tim Urquhart from S&P Global said, “Manufacturers are seeing what customers want, and it’s not as many EVs as expected.” It’s a reminder: progress isn’t just about bold goals—it’s about delivering real value to customers. We love EVs for reasons that will lead to continued adoption (including hybrids, like Toyota’s approach). #ElectricVehicles #LeanThinking #CustomerFirst https://lnkd.in/gPQpmnBT

With over 20 years in the automotive sector, I find the market entry and ongoing transition to EVs and mobility fascinating. Business schools will study this era as a case of lessons learned in balancing innovation with customer demand. What really gets me thinking is how mobility will evolve by the time my kids are old enough to drive. Will they ever experience that classic sense of freedom behind the wheel, or will autonomous vehicles change the game entirely? #AutoIndustry #EVTransition #FutureOfMobility

Countering electric vehicle anxieties ~ Finding the appropriate technologies to bring electric vehicles to market ~ Major car manufacturing giants Toyota and Volvo are the latest in a long list of car manufacturers to put the brakes on electric car production targets. Electric vehicles (EVs) present a number of environmental and performance benefits, but recent concerns about consumer demand have left car manufacturers uneasy. #GoElectric #EVsAreFuture #ChargeAhead #EVRevolution #ZeroEmissionsNow Cressall Resistors Ltd https://lnkd.in/eA-45mse

European automotive manufacturers are facing a series of significant challenges on their journey towards complete electrification. Volvo Cars has recently decided to retract its previously ambitious goal of exclusively producing electric vehicles by 2030, emphasizing the importance of being "pragmatic and flexible" in response to evolving market circumstances. In a similar vein, crisis-affected Volkswagen, along with other companies such as Ford and Mercedes, has revealed plans to postpone their earlier objectives for phasing out the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles in Europe. #EV #electricvehicles

My comments in the Financial Times today: In 2023, China produced 17.7mn internal combustion engine cars, a 37 per cent fall from its prior peak in 2017, according to data from Automobility Ltd, a Shanghai consultancy. Bill Russo, the former head of Chrysler in China and founder of advisory firm Automobility, said that the “precipitous decline” of internal combustion engine car sales means as much as half of the industry’s installed capacity — around 25mn units of 50mn units annual capacity — is not being used. #china #overcapacity #electricvehicles
