As a Christmas gift for one of my coworkers, I 3d printed a 5x larger version of one of my favorite devices that onsemi sells. The NVH4L0F0N, is a 1200V silicon carbide(SiC) mosfet. My first thought when seeing this FET was, why are there 4 pins? Shouldn't it just be source, gate, drain? That's when my coworker explained the 4th pin is an addition to the source, and known as the Kelvin source. Since the voltage range is so large, the Kelvin source helps reduce the ringing on the gate pin. Also, Tom Stoltz if you're seeing this, please act surprised when you unwrap your gift!
Roel Zwetsloot I can see you do this....
That’s awesome!
