#Italy's NEXTCHEM and #Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas-Aero (KMG AERO) have signed an agreement to collaborate on advancing #energytransition initiatives, leveraging on NEXTCHEM’s proprietary technology portfolio and process engineering capabilities. These initiatives aim at contributing to the #decarbonization and upgrade of Kazakhstan’s industry and assets, in particular for the production of #sustainableaviationfuel (#SAF) and low-carbon #hydrogen through #CO2capture, as well as for the implementation of #circular solutions. NEXTCHEM is poised to drive #sustainable innovation through its proprietary technologies for Sustainable Aviation Fuel such as NX SAF BIO and NX Circular, a "Waste-to-X" solution which transforms waste into valuable chemical resources, as well as NX AdWinHydrogen and NX AdWinMethanol, innovative solutions for large-scale production of #lowcarbonhydrogen and #methanol from natural gas through CO2 capture. Moreover, NEXTCHEM is providing cutting edge circular technologies including NX Replast, an advanced solution for #plasticupcycling. NEXTCHEM and KMG AERO will evaluate the feasibility of development initiatives in the country, involving TECNIMONT for the assessment of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction activities when projects advance to the execution phase. Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has completed the design phase of its next-generation smelting technology, EX ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵. The key features of this technology are: - *Larger reduction cells*: EX reduction cells are larger than EGA’s most recently industrialised technology DX+ Ultra, enabling higher amperage and improved current efficiency, increasing production capacity by up to 22% ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵. - *Two variants*: EX has been designed with two variants, one to maximize productivity and the other to further minimize greenhouse gas emissions ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵. - *Greenhouse gas emissions*: Reduced electricity consumption, lower net carbon consumption, and reduced incidence of anode effects are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of aluminum produced by around 5% for the more productive variant and around 12% for the lower energy variant ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵. - *Pilot reduction cells*: EGA intends to construct ten pilot EX reduction cells at the company’s aluminum smelter in Al Taweelah to test and validate performance ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵. - *Full industrialization*: The target is that EX is ready for full industrialization by 2028 ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵. - *Improved pot performance*: Innovations in the design of EX technology are expected to deliver enhanced pot performance with improvements to busbars, superstructure and potshells, leading to lower surrounding temperatures and better working environment ¹ ² ³ ⁵.
EGA has completed the design phase of our next generation smelting technology, EX. The new technology will enable the production of more aluminium with less energy and lower emissions.
