I’ve interviewed roughly 53 applicants for their final round in the past 3 weeks, have rolled offers to 8. Some key observations- 1. Rejected all candidates who don’t consume tasteful content 2. Surprisingly, 60% of hired folks are Bengalis and 30% are Malayalis 3. The TAT was roughly 25 days to close all offers. We’ve fairly cracked hiring (The Matar Collective community played a big role) 4. Most common test method used was - “find mistakes in this video”. Giving “tasks” never helps, increases TAT and makes the process cumbersome for both candidate and recruiter + managers 5. Proof of work was the true litmus test for all candidates, except a few candidates who had ambition/will to grow 6. Mahaana (YC W22) It's concerning that job opportunities, especially in specialized fields like research analysis, are not as prevalent in Peshawar and KP. Peshawar has a wealth of talent and potential, but there seems to be a significant gap in exposure and availability of relevant positions. I believe there should be more initiatives to bridge this gap, such as increased investment in local industries, creation of more research and development centers, and partnerships with educational institutions to foster a strong ecosystem for professional growth. Additionally, awareness campaigns and job fairs could help connect local talent with national and international employers. Empowering our local workforce with adequate opportunities and exposure is crucial for the socio-economic development of Peshawar and KP.
