One of the things I wished someone tells me about when I started my work as a freelance writer is: To accept imperfect pieces as most of the time they sound perfect comparing to average writings out there! Remember two tips: 1. Perfection is one of the most crucial mistakes a new writer may get trapped in. 2. One of the best ways to write perfect pieces is to write any way and receive the feedback that can work as your best guide to enhancement and natural development. #Writing #omatips #ghostwriting

Too many new freelance writers want to be guru and think that'll get them better clients. Big mistake. Focus less on posting platitudes, untested advice, and faking expertise. Focus more on outreach, delivering, and sharing your experience. You'll make more money this way. #Writing #Authenticity

I found Grammarly was making all my writing sound the same and/or not "mine" when I used it. Technically correct English isn't always the most effective copy. It's kind of a precursor to a problem I'm seeing with AI copy these days, too. When you see it enough, you start to notice all the similarities ("ensure", "instill", 3-5 H2 headings in each article, "in conclusion", 2-4 sentences restating the same thing over and over, no actual opinion stated or flag planted, etc), and it completely takes you out of the experience of reading. IME, Grammarly produces a similar effect, but it's guiding human writers towards it instead of generating the copy itself.

Confession: I'm a freelance writer and almost never use Grammarly. I see the appeal, but I break a LOT of "rules" when writing. I vary punctuation, start sentences with "but", etc. I don't like that a software tells me not to write how I prefer to read. What'd you think?

Grammarly and other such AI tools are designed to standardize, ergo blandify, your writing. Reduce it to New York Times level, 10th grade. Fine if you're a journalist and want readers to get "just the facts." Awful if you are a novelist and want to preserve your voice. 1) It matters what style setting you choose before you check, of course 2) learn to ignore even the Chicago Manual of Style if your way of phrasing it is more you.

Do you ever get “amiable” and “amicable” mixed up? They both mean “friendly,” but there is a difference. ◉ “Amiable” typically refers to people. Example: The amiable chef sent us a complimentary dessert. ◉ “Amicable” typically refers to relationships. Example: Michigan and Ohio State’s rivalry has never been amicable. The Wolverines’ fourth straight win on Saturday is unlikely to change that. #editing #writing #GoBlue ▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄ Hello! I’m Jacob Whiten, a freelance #editor and #proofreader.
