5 months into my marketing role at Conturae, and wow, it has been quite the journey already! 🎢 For anyone starting a new marketing position (or thinking about it), here's what I wish I'd known from day one: ✨ Be a sponge, not a genius. My marketing degree taught me loads, but real-world marketing? That's a whole different game. Be ready to learn from everyone, even (especially!) the non-marketing team members. 👋 Get to know the WHOLE team. Marketing touches everything. Understanding what each person does helps you spot opportunities to make their lives easier. Plus, they've got insights about customers you won't find in any report! 📝 Document everything. Every process, every login, every random thing someone mentions information come from. At the beginning there is so much to take in, it's unrealistic to think you will remember everything! 🎯 Start small, think big. Don't try to reinvent the wheel in week one. Focus on understanding what's working first, then look for ways to make it better. 💡 Ask "silly" questions. Better to ask now than assume and mess up later. I still ask questions every day, and guess what? They lead to the best conversations and ideas! What advice would you give to someone in their first few months? #MarketingCareer #CareerAdvice #NewJob #Marketing Merry Christmas everyone, here's a jazzy photo from the Conturae Christmas party 🥰 🎄
Great post Olivia - and my advice would be that there is no such thing as a silly question. Question everything to be sure you understand it. The only silly question is the one that didn’t get asked!!
I think your first point is a great one, Olivia. “Be a sponge”. I learned so much from watching and listening to the people around me, when I started work. Sounds like you’re having a great time!
This is a great list and the points apply to lots of jobs even non-marketing roles!

2dI think your insights are so spot on! Especially the one about noting everything down. Whenever someone new starts with us, we try to give them every possible tool (analogue and digital) so they can keep track of what they need in a way that makes them comfortable.
