Dark Side of Social Media! Writing about this disturbing trend on social media yesterday, where individuals, including parents, are risking themselves and even their kids for the sake of viral content, is highly shocking to me! My question here is: Has the pursuit of fame and validation become so essential? Why is there such a lack of accountability and consequences? #shockingvideo #socialmediamadness #disturbingevent

Teens have found a new path to the Holy Grail of going viral. They're orchestrating violent attacks, filming them, and posting them to SnapChat, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media platforms. LPR Attorney Emmie Paulos told FOX News that social media companies encourage violent content. "We see it every day," said Paulos, who is a member of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee in the product liability multidistrict litigation that aims to hold social media companies accountable for adolescent addiction and personal injury resulting from these companies' profit-driven algorithms. "The public needs to know that content on social media that elicits a strong response is going to drive user engagement. That is the goal of the algorithm," Paulos said. The power of social media can be a double-edged sword ⚔. While it has the potential to connect us and amplify important voices, it can also unleash a dark and dangerous side. The tragic case of the #TamilNaduinfant who fell from a balcony, only to have her mother take her own life due to relentless #onlinetrolling, serves as a chilling reminder of social media's capacity for harm. The outrage and judgment that poured forth, often without full context, can have #devastating real-world consequences. Similarly, the #Punecase of a 17-year-old #Porschedriver who killed two people highlights how social media can distort justice. Had there not been such a #publicoutcry, the minor may have faced a #lenientpunishment. (Writing essay and working with traffic police 🙄 ). Instead, the entire family found themselves behind bars, with social media playing an undeniable role. These examples underscore the need for #caution and responsible use of social media. While it offers a powerful platform, we must be mindful of the potential for #mobmentality, #misinformation, and the lasting impact our digital actions can have on #vulnerableindividuals and their loved ones. As we navigate this evolving landscape, we must strive to wield social media's influence with wisdom and empathy. 🙏 #PunePorscheCase #JuvenileJusticeBoard #SocialMediaInfluenceOnJustice #DigitalJusticeSocialMediaOutcry #LegalImpactOfSocialMedia #OnlineInfluenceOnLegalSystem #TeenDriverResponsibility #OnlineJudgment #OnlineJustice#ImpactOfTrolling #SocialMediaEthics #JusticeAndSocialMedia #MindfulUsage #DigitalWellbeing #InternetMobMentality #PowerOfSocialMedia #ThinkBeforeYouPost #ProtectTheVulnerable #SocialMediaImpact #WiseUseOfSocialMedia #EmpathyOnline

#DecodingHeadlines This week brings us the verb TACKLE "Social media given 'last chance' to tackle illegal posts?" (by BBC) 🎓 In this context, "tackle" refers to taking significant actions to address a problem, often involving uncertainty or challenges, rather than just dealing with a simple issue. (Cambridge dictionary) · Can be replaced by synonyms such as: addressing, confronting, taking on, dealing with, etc. · Another example of use could be: "He tackled the problem of declining sales, and it resulted in a remarkable turnaround." "Are Facebook & Instagram dying?" Earlier today I attended an event organised by the West Cheshire & North Wales Chamber of Commerce and I had an interesting conversation. Someone asked me whether platforms like Instagram and Facebook were “dying.” Social media is evolving quickly, and each platform has distinct strengths and audiences. Instead of seeing platforms as obsolete, I believe the key is to understand their role and tailor your approach: • TikTok is the king of creativity and virality, where short, entertaining videos resonate with a younger audience. • Instagram remains a strong platform for visual storytelling and community building, particularly through Reels and Stories. • Facebook, while quieter, excels in fostering connections through Groups and older, more engaged demographics. A perfect example? A law firm recently went viral on TikTok with a festive video of a solicitor dancing to The Holiday soundtrack. It’s proof that even the most traditional industries can succeed by adapting their tone and creativity to the right platform. The takeaway: Social media isn’t dying—it’s diversifying. Your strategy should be less about the platform itself and more about the audience you’re trying to reach. Have you experimented with different platforms? What’s worked best for your business?

Social media has become an integral part of our lives, serving as a platform for interaction, business, and #entertainment. However, some individuals have taken it upon themselves to use this space to spread false rumors and engage in abusive behavior, causing unnecessary distress to innocent parties. Recently, the #NigerianGospel scene has been rocked by baseless rumors regarding #MercyChinwo and #NathanielBassey. These rumors have been hurtful not only to the individuals involved but also their #families and fans. It is important to note that spreading false information without fact or proof is not only damaging but also illegal. By the provisions of Section 375 of the #CriminalCodeAct, any person who publishes any defamatory matter is guilty of a misdemeanor and is liable to imprisonment for one year; and any person who publishes any defamatory matter knowing it to be false, is liable to imprisonment for two years. As a #journalist I urge everyone to be responsible when using social media. Before sharing any information, make sure it is accurate and factual. Commenting on someone's post without proof or fact can have serious consequences, including ruining their career and personal life. I am glad to hear that #legal action has been taken against those spreading these rumors. This should serve as a lesson to all social media users to think twice before posting harmful content. #Cyberbullying is a serious issue that affects many people, and it is important to remember that the individuals we are bullying are human beings with feelings and emotions. Let us all strive to create a positive and respectful #online community where everyone feels safe and valued. Spreading love and positivity is much more rewarding than engaging in harmful behavior. Let us treat others the way we would like to be treated, both online and offline. #myopinion
