enquiry into Appetite for Business Microsoft 365 Them: Hi Sheryl we need to move some data from Dropbox into SharePoint. How much will it cost? Us: we won’t know until we check the number of files, file types, how they need to be moved , any archiving policy and the framework of where they will be moved too. We also need to discuss future proofing your system should you wish to adopt other m365 apps going forward which will use this data. Them: another company “like you” can do it for 800 Me: there is no way you should be migrating that amount of data into that proposed set up and I’d be very concerned. We want to do this right. Them: price is a factor so we are going with the other company. May 2024 - 10 months later Them: Hi Sheryl we spoke last year about our data migration. We discovered some of our data was lost during the move as it wasn’t backed up, and our system is now incredibly slow to the point we can’t use it. We have 200000 files in one document library 😲 Can you help us please.. So true as someone will always do it cheaper, doing it right costs more.
That's the classic tale of choosing price over quality! Always better to invest wisely, not cheaply.
The moral of the story -> "What seems cheaper often is expensive in the long run."
Sheryl Newman - SharePoint As my grandad used to say "buy once, buy well". Invest in quality and it is an investment into your future, do it on the cheap and you end up doing it many more times at a much larger expense in the end
A classic exemplification of “Buy cheap, buy twice”. That saying doesn’t also factor in the holistic costs caused by the first purchase, such as in your situation operatioal down time, from the inability to access data.
I'm reminded of the adage about things being done quickly, cheaply or effectively (but you can only pick two). 🤔
Always best to try to do it right first time - cheaper isn't always better 😉
See things like that quite regularly unfortunately
Wise advice Sheryl Newman - SharePoint 👍

7moThe bitterness in quality quickly overwhelms the taste of the price. Or simply put, you get what you pay for.
