Journey from near nothing, to Big Tech, and into the Dream. 🎓 Harvard University Recruitment: Straight out of high school, I was recruited by Harvard University. I achieved a perfect score on multiple New York standardized tests, so much so that my teachers would literally place bets on my annual performance. Despite being offered a potential scholarship for diversity, the cost was astronomical, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the proposition. 🦬 Choosing University at Buffalo: Instead, I accepted a full academic scholarship to the University at Buffalo, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Double Major. I succeeded in managing the heaviest course load ever approved.I proactively wrote to the Deans for approval of my credit hours, presenting a detailed time allocation model that showcased my commitment and capability. 🚀 Bay Area Bound: With nothing but dreams, I moved to the Bay Area. Ran out of 💰, I borrowed from my sister and paid it back with my first paycheck. Starting as a contract worker at Adobe , I automated my role, earned a full-time position, and went on to contribute to the development of the Data Driven Operating Model, which is now taught at Harvard Business School. Countless late nights pushing the limits of SFDC, Tableau, and Excel through self-directed learning and experiments. Adobe’s resources and my dedication forged a world-class skillset. Great partners in IT to support my learnings. 📈 Expanding the Data Driven Operating Model: At Adobe I expanded DDOM into an Enterprise version, adding Implementation and Evaluation Steps, establishing Enterprise Grade KPIs, and up-leveling the GTM motion. Scaling the Dashboard experience to mobile! 🌴 Living the Dream: The rewards? Achieved everything I set out to by 30 years old, including Director. Then got to travel and have had three incredible years living on Maui. 🔑 Key Takeaways: You don’t need to fit the traditional mold to achieve greatness. With hard work, resilience, and a willingness to learn, you can overcome nearly any obstacle. My journey has included building Forecasting for an IPO, leading the creation of a $1B platform from whiteboard to execution, and successfully shifting 2 businesses up-market. You can do great things from humble beginnings! The ultimate MBA isn’t found in classrooms; it’s in the trenches, doing the work. 💪 Final Thoughts: Embrace your unique path. Dare to be different. Building Foresight Muscles: From Classroom to Coursera Thrilled to announce that I've completed the "Building Strategic Foresight Capabilities" course on Coursera, offered by EDHEC Business School and UNESCO. This course was actually an integral part of the live class I had the pleasure of taking with Professor René Rohrbeck this semester. The class provided a strong foundation, and the Coursera format allowed for deeper exploration of the concepts. Together, this combined learning experience equipped me with the tools and frameworks to: ·      Identify and interpret signals of change in the business landscape through a systems thinking lens. ·      Utilize scenario planning to prepare for various future possibilities. ·      Develop future-oriented and resilient strategies for success, considering all system interdependencies. In the last 6 months, Bruce: 1. Was admitted into the highly competitive deferred MBA program at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business 2. Graduated from Brigham Young University where he was president of the renowned Finance Society 3. Started his career at Microsoft’s rotational program 4. Got married… and then immediately studied for and took the GMAT … phew! 😅 When Bruce first heard about deferred MBA programs, he knew it was a long shot — deferred programs only accept a handful of candidates each year and as such, are extremely competitive. But with his eyes set on Chicago Booth, he decided to go all in… 6 months later, 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗲 and will matriculate in several years. But first, he’s headed off to Microsoft’s rotational program. 🚀 Bruce almost counted himself out of the applications before even trying. Overcoming this fear and imposter syndrome was his first major hurdle on his MBA journey. Visiting campuses and attending events helped him narrow down his list, guiding him to the programs that best aligned with his goals. Newly married and laser-focused, Bruce dedicated himself to GMAT prep, balancing 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴 of nightly study with school work and family life. ✍️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀? It wasn’t just about stellar essays or a top GMAT score. Bruce believed his authenticity would make the difference. Instead of writing what he thought the admissions committee wanted to hear, he dug deep, sharing stories that were true to who he is. 🤝 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: Bruce didn’t just apply—he built relationships.
