#OnlineFirst Revisiting the Impact of Illegitimate Tasks on Volunteers: Does Emotional Labor Make a Difference? by Qing Miao, Chao Pan, & Gary Schwarz The article brings affective events theory to the investigation of illegitimate tasks in the context of volunteer engagement. Using a three-wave survey of 1,948 volunteers, the authors found that illegitimate tasks negatively influence #Volunteer #Engagement. It outlines, among other implications, that managers should prioritize the emotional well-being of volunteers. https://lnkd.in/dcbii5wy

🌍 International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development 🌍 Today, we celebrate the power of volunteerism on International Volunteer Day—a day dedicated to acknowledging the selfless contributions of individuals and groups working to improve economic and social development. As citizens, we have the right and responsibility to contribute to the well-being of our communities and society. Volunteering is not just about giving your time—it's about actively participating in creating positive change. Every act, no matter how small, plays a significant role in shaping a better future for all. The right to participate in volunteer efforts, whether through education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, or social justice, is essential for building a thriving society. It is through these collective efforts that we empower individuals, strengthen communities, and promote a more inclusive world. Let’s use this day to reflect on how we can contribute to the development of our societies—whether through direct service, supporting organizations, or spreading awareness. Together, we can build a world where every person has the opportunity to thrive. 🌱 #InternationalVolunteerDay #Volunteerism #SocialDevelopment #EconomicDevelopment #CivicEngagement #SocialGood #CommunityImpact #HumanRights #CollectiveAction #GiveBack #Empowerment #SustainableFuture #SocialChange #VolunteerPower #TogetherForChange

As we talk about volunteerism as an antidote to loneliness, we need to be aware of the ways that service creates a sense of welcome and belonging - or doesn't. Volunteerism alone is not a magic bullet. It needs to be thoughtfully designed and practiced to yield positive outcomes for our communities, agencies, and volunteers. I explore some of the ways we can move toward intentionality in this article. Thanks, Engage, for sharing the piece, and thanks to Rev. Stephanie Spellers for her book "Radical Welcome" that inspired it.

International Volunteer Day (IVD) December 5th is celebrated as International Volunteer Day (IVD) worldwide. This day is dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the efforts of volunteers who make a significant difference in their communities. The theme for IVD 2024 is "Volunteering for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)". This theme highlights the crucial role volunteers play in achieving the United Nations' SDGs. Importance of Volunteering: 1. Community Development: Volunteering helps build stronger, more resilient communities. 2. Personal Growth: Volunteering develops new skills, boosts confidence, and enhances career prospects. 3. Social Connections: Volunteering provides opportunities to meet like-minded people and build lasting relationships. 4. Health Benefits: Volunteering has been shown to improve mental and physical health. Volunteering shows that even the smallest act of kindness can spark a ripple effect of compassion and empathy. Everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and valued. Through volunteering, we discover the beauty of human connection. Strangers become friends, and communities come together to support one another. Volunteering transforms lives. It gives a sense of purpose, a renewed sense of empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world around us. To all the volunteers out there, we see you. we hear you. And we thank you. Your selflessness, your kindness, and your generosity inspires us every day. Let us continue to spread love, kindness, and compassion wherever we go. Let us continue to volunteer, to serve, and to make a difference in the lives of others. Together, we can create a world that is more just, more equitable, and more loving." Let's Celebrate the Spirit of Volunteering! #fujielectric #volunteers #volunteering #csr #corporatesocialresponsibility

Volunteer experience is invaluable and here's why: Because it demonstrates the applicant's commitment, initiative, and ability to contribute beyond just paid work, reflecting qualities like social responsibility, time management, and a willingness to gain transferable skills. Beyond that, it highlights not just the societal impact of volunteering but its personal benefits too. 🧠 77% of volunteers report an improvement in their mental health through volunteering (National Volunteer Association). In recruitment, the significance of volunteer experience goes beyond mere skill acquisition. It reflects on an individual's dedication and capacity to contribute positively. 💡 This week, let’s acknowledge the integral role volunteering plays in professional development. As recruiters, we have the opportunity to recognise and value the diverse experiences volunteers bring to the table. 🤝 #VolunteersWeek #Recruitment #ProfessionalDevelopment #MentalHealth #SocialResponsibility #Volunteering #Talent #HumanResources #TimeManagement #Community #CompanyCulture

International Volunteer Day: Celebrating the Power of Volunteerism International Volunteer Day (IVD) is observed annually on December 5 to recognize and promote the efforts of volunteers worldwide. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985, this day highlights the vital role volunteers play in social and economic development. IVD provides a moment to reflect on how volunteerism benefits not just communities but also workplaces. Many companies now embrace corporate volunteering programs, which enhance employee engagement and help develop new skills, while also making a positive impact on society. Each year, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program leads a campaign focusing on themes related to current global challenges. These themes often align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), showcasing how volunteers contribute to addressing critical issues such as poverty, inequality, and climate change. IVD is not just a day to honor volunteers—it's a call to action. It encourages individuals and organizations to engage in volunteer work, promote the spirit of volunteerism, and advocate for policies that support these efforts. For professionals, participating in IVD offers opportunities to build networks, develop new skills, and contribute to meaningful causes. As we celebrate International Volunteer Day, let's recognize how volunteerism drives positive change. Whether through corporate programs or personal initiatives, volunteering allows us to make a meaningful difference while fostering a more inclusive and compassionate society.
